I will be switched over to Primus on the 25th May (2 days from now) I do not wish to use the Speedtouch modem they have sent because I have a wireless connection. I have contacted them about this but was wondering if anybody knows the manual settings for the connection i.e. PPPoE, PPPoA etc. Would be gratefull if some one could tell as I cannot find it in the instructions.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0

The Setting should be the same as your last isp, as all UK broadband providers seems to have the same settings. (Unless your on ADSL2 or something)
Ie PPPoA VC
VPI 0
VCI 38
Only thing that will change is your username and password.
Just signed up today. Graham said that the service WILL have a fair usage policy. I told him I download 100-120Gigs a month and he put me on hold and talked to IAN MCBRIDE who said as they are only starting out expect the service to be unlimited for the first 12 or so month till they get up to capacity before they start enforcing the AUP. He also said the call was recorded and that if I had any problems within the 12months I could complain based on the call.
Strange there was no mention of the call being recoreded which I thought was a requirement (so I hope he's not telling porkies to get a sale). Im migrating from Freedom2surf @ 24.99 a month and was quoted 15.98 a month for 12 month contract on 2 Mbps. (after £15 rebate every 3 months).
I'm also very keen to hear from anyone using this service!!!0 -
The truth of the matter is everyone who`s signing up is taking a chance as this company has no track record.(OK the parent company is xxx largest in the universe)
They also have to be very competitive with cheap prices and no limit downloads to get the punters in.
They may or may not be the greatest thing since sliced bread
only time and moans on the boards will tell.
Where`s that guy Mike Paterson who promoted E7even these days.0 -
I was switched over last night and had problems this morning logging on with my wireless router (D-link not supplied speedtouch 330 with software) so I phoned up and explained I could not log on and had I been switched over they said I had and needed to speak to the engineer about settings I was told the engineer would phone back but never did. I tried again tonight and connected so I think something had not been done their end (or BT). To soon to now how reliable it is but first impressions its OK. I still have not been able to get my email account working yet but Iam sure that will follow. I did suggest they should send out in for those who wish to configure their own setup.
Update email now working too after contacting them by phone and asking for POP3 and SMTP settings. I suggested they add this info to one of the letters they send out or on their website.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0 -
Mazio - You are a couple of days in, is everything going OK ?? Exactly how long did it take for your connection to be activated. I signed up on Tuesday 16th May and although they said up to 14 working days, I have now been told that my service will be activated on 5th/6th June, which will be the full 14 working days, if you include the bank holiday (they don't count Sats. or Suns. although loads of people work on them these days)) This is twice as long as the 7 days activation offered to IO MEXICO. I had to extend my Fast4 dial-up service for another month, only cost me a £5iver, so no big hassle. Modem received yesterday."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0

OK was switched over on 25th May I think it took about 9 days from when I contacted them but I had already got the MAC code from BTYahoo (this could possibly cause delay switching).
I have not used the software and modem they sent because I have wireless network and older kids use internet and gaming upstairs.
I could not connect first thing on 25th and phoned up to enquire if I had actualy been switched over they said I had but could give me no further info if my setup was correct so they said they would inform the engineer who would phone me later (never did though) but when I tried to connect after work it started up and was well impressed with speed (2 meg) just the same as BT. Then had trouble with email settings again had to contact and eventualy after several calls everything is working. The problem is I believe the system is new and the customer sevice people did not have the info and I could not find it anywere although I got some very helpful and correct advice on this group.
I lost connection yesterday (Saturday 27th) for several hours and had to re-establish it by switching my router on and off several times (dont know if it would have conected anyway).
So first impresion is if it keeps working and is reliable its far cheaper then my previous setup and speed seems to be the same (tried it on ADSLguide speed check). Free 0800 number extremely fast responce time let down by technical knowledge but this could change when estabished. Iam still waiting for phone transfer which is on the 1st June. I also use the Orchid dialer.
So the only thing is reliablility but this Iam willing to wait.
Hope this helps?Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0 -
