Till now, has anyone able to activate their line wihtout problems??
My activation was yesterday..I am able to connect using bt_test@startup_domain login (I never had broadband before on this line) but not using their login credentials...
I called them...a very knowledgable lady spoke to me...
1) doesn't know what is bt_test login... "we don't support that login"
2) blames BT for delay...
3) kept me on hold for 15 mins to discuss with manager...
4) said, modem is sent by BT when your line is activated...so unless you receive your modem you line is not activated...
still no internet... no modem received ....
Since yesterday...I cannot use my phone line without broadband filter .. doesn't that mean that my line is activated ???All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.0 -
You should still be able to use your phone without the filter, you may just hear noise, that's all without.
The filter is used to screen out any noise that may leak over into the speech side of the line, the connected that goes to the modem is unfiltered. Filters are also needed for Sky boxes, fax machines and dial-up modems as these all use the speech side of the line.
Does sound strange however. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

I don't know if this is anything to do with Primus broadband or if you have just stuck it here like the previous poster! (speed test)
If you can connect to the bt_test@startup_domain login that means that your line has been ADSL activated but that does not necessarily mean that your account has been enabled i.e. your login/password. As you have not yet received your modem I would guess that this is the case, so be patient! The reason that you can no longer use our phone without a BB filter is obviously because you now have a BB activated line, which you have proved by connecting to bt_test@startup_domain login. i.e. your modem can sync but your account is not yet active at your ISP.

Results will vary - take a few at different intervals. It's usually obvious when the speed drops as you notice the difference.

Thanks, Patr100, and my apologies for posting the question on the wrong forum! Regards

I got what I thought was a superb offer from Primus:
1 meg at £17.99 less a £3 p.m. discount and a quarterly credit of £15 taking the cost per month down to £9.99.
Unfortunately, BT have refused to switch the line because, they say, my line will only handle 512Kb (which, it's true, is the speed I've got with Wanadoo/Orange) - so bang goes that money saving hope.
Unless anyone knows how I can get around it.........0 -
Talk to Primus as it is still worth it even if you can only get 512kb. This is still miles better than dial-up. I can't see any reason why you cannot switch and get a reduced service as other people do who sign up with other providers for 8mb but can only get 2 or so. The terms you were offered are exactly the same as mine and is their current deal."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0

All I can say for Primus, is thanfully the support number is a freephone number. I am still not connected after 2 months of trying with them. The customer service has been pretty poor. Between them and BT it has been one big joke. Luckily I can still access certain websites at work, including this one! My next connection date is the 24/07/2006. Last chance saloon for them now!0

Well, I'm now back online after nearly 2 months of waiting and being messed around a bit. I did get compensated for the problems, so looking good so far. Downloads are good.0

I'm also having problems chaning over to Primus from Wanadoo. Its been around 1 month so far even though I supplied a MAC. They have said that they will pay my Wanadoo monthly charge so I will carry on waiting a bit longer. I will have to get another MAC if I want to go somewhere else.
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0
