The deal is as follows, taken from an email;
Primus Freetalk Plus Option 2 with 1 MB broadband. (£17.98 per month)*
Weekends Free (90 minutes per call)
Evenings Free (90 minutes per call)
Daytime 2p per minute.
Plus Unlimited monthly downloads.
*The freetalk plus package is based on a cashback loyalty bonus so although we charge you £17.98 per month, we credit your account with a sum of £15 every 3 months. This alone would bring your average monthly payments down to £12.98 - a very competitive rate -but ontop of this, once you have been with the service for 12 months we credit your account with a seperate lump sum of £53.94 (3 months worth of broadband payments). This astonishing payback scheme means that your average monthly payments over the year are only £8.48 for your call package and unlimited broadband service.
I'm not very techy and have no idea how to report back on band widths, sorry. No problem with speed - was with Virgin 1MB deal before and see no difference.0 -
I used to be with plusnet and have same speed now with primus I use p2p and every thing with no problems0

This is different to the package I was advised. My terms were the same except that "at the end of the 1st year you will be credited with 3 months payments". If this has to be used for further service it means the average cost for 15 months is £10.38 per month. (17.98 x 12 - 60.00 divided by 15.) So this needs clearing up. I can't see them giving you the credit until after your 1st year is up, which means that you would have to use it against further service. Nearly £2 per month difference!"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -
Excuse me if this is a stupid question but do I need to have a BT landline to sign up to Primus BB? I have been cut off my BT landline and have been getting myself sorted and am now looking for a new Telephone and BB package... this looks good to me but I cant seem to get my head round when you do need a BT landline and when you dont???
If I get BB & Tel line with em how much would I be looking at paying? I guess I would have to get my MAC from Tiscali (current provider) to change across then phone them up?
Any advice welcomed!!

Yes, you need a BT landline.
Also it is unwise to have a landline off anyone else.
Plus other than cable phone, you need a working BT line to transfer over to another providers landline such as TalkTalk. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

Ah I see, BT told me there were other phone providers that I could use but I cant get cable so I wondered who they could be, I would just rather pay one bill thats all but if I need to get the phone line from BT then I guess thats the only choice I have, it seems such a waste as I dont really use the landline, only for the broadband which currently seems to be working although they assure me that wont be for long... I guess I need to go grovelling back to BT then and just find a good BB package on its own then?
Thanks for your help!

There are a few others who re-sell BT line rental, but you end up paying a lot more for calls, as only BT are forced to allow you to use other cheap call providers, so the other line rental providers block access, so you either end up paying a lot more or only saving a few pennies.
Now it would seem rather silly not to cut your phone bill by 25%, 50% or more, just so you can have it on one bill.
Just like supermarkets where you pay 200 - 400% more for fruit, veg, meat and fish than you do at a market because you want to get it all in one place, the same is very often true in Telecoms.

This loyalty bonus scheme is a complete con!!!! No matter how they want to dress it up the fact is you are still paying £17.98 a month for a 1MB connection, which is actually very expensive and I can't see anywhere that mentions you will get FREE months or be allowed to use the credit that has accrued to pay the monthly fee. The bonuses are only credited to your Primus account and not given back in real money. Maybe they are expecting people to spend their bonuses on phone calls, but anyone using Primus phone package sensibly never pays a penny to them for calls anyway! and not only that, assuming you can pay the monthly fee out of the bonus credit you're going to be tied into this contract for a minimum of 18mths just to use it all up, madness! I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole!!!0 -
Chumana- I disagree completely with your summary. If you take the £15 credit every quarter, this immediately brings the cost down to £12.98 per month, no argument. Then with 3 months free at the end of the year, this has to be worth at least around £39. Add in the free connection, free modem, free evening and week-end calls and it is a very good deal. I fail to see how you work out that you are tied in for 18 months - by my reckoning it is only 15 months and of course you can use the credit to pay for the monthly fee. After all we are not dealing with a here to-day, gone to-morrow company. They are the 6th largest telecoms company in the world. I am very happy with the service and the costs."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0
