  • I thought the problem today with BB connection was my end, looks like it wasn't. Not sure how you stand if they are failing to provide the service. I'm actually out of my 12 month contract and seriously considering asking for my MAC code. What puts me off is trying to decide who else to go with:confused:
I would take the code and go personally . My broadband been ok today but im off soon as i can get out of the contract

I was thinking of moving to Sky, then I could have telephone calls, broadband and sky tv all in the 1 payment. Has anyone any experience of Sky packages?

You have to make sure your exchange has Sky equipment in it otherwise you'll have to have Sky's BT Wholesale product which is charged at a much higher rate.

Sky's email is ropey if you can ever get it to work in the first place.

Phone package is OK you can get the evening and weekend calls package for free, but unlike Primus whose calls are up to 90 mins, Sky's are up to 60min, plus Sky's daytime rate starts two hours earlier, so you get less 'free' calls hours. With Primus you get the option of penny mobile where you can call UK mobiles for 20p for up to 20 mins.

You also have to ensure you remain a Sky TV customer otherwise they kick you off the broadband and phone service.

If you have Sky TV, then it might be worth having the broadband if the equipment is in your exchange, but I'd keep line rental with BT and use Primus for the calls package.

Having everything in one payment is very rarely the best option.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I wish I had looked around before signing up for another year. Can't get the cheap Sky package in my area. I pay £14.99 per month for 8 mbps BB and free evening and weekend callswith Primus. My son has Tiscali and for the same price he gets free weekend calls, 8 Mb BB and LINE RENTAL included! I pay BT another £11 or £12 per month for that. He is well pleased with Tisc, it has only gone down once in 2 years, for 1 day!.

Yeah, but Tiscali are the worst provider out there.

OK there's been issues with Primus, be be thankful it's nothing like the problems people get with Tiscali and their appalling Customer Service.

Then there's the problem of getting the line rental back from Tiscali when they screw up - which they will and you want out.

Still down (also BB connection to-day). Getting completely p****d off with Primus. Phoned them again to-day and they "hope it will be fixed to-day." Their Customer Service guys. who I feel for, are completely fed up with lack of answers from HO. It is now 13 days since problems started. I said I would ask for my MAC code and go elsewhere but they say I am under contract until November of this year. Does anyone know how we stand if they are failing to provide the service contracted for. Does a contract have to be signed or by accepting the terms are we legally tied in ??

Theloft, I wasn't aware that the BB service went down at any time. I've noticed this evening that the Outlook Express Log On/password box now comes up when it tries to connect to mail.eprimus. I just rang Primus to query this and have been told that "they" are installing a new mail server, so the fact that the Log On box now comes up might be the glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel...but don't hold your breath.

I too have had the box come up but it doesn't accept my password.
Maybe it will be sorted soon, but, like you say - "don't hold your breath."
These are the first long-term issues I have had with Primus and I agree with an earlier post about Tiscali - I have heard so many complaints with Tiscali - they cut your connection speed at certain times, bad customer service etc.
I was helping my Dad out a couple of months ago - he is on Tiscali - and it disconnected itself and when you tried to reconnect it was at 128 mbps!
Overall Primus have been ok and they are among the cheapest. An earlier post claiming £14-99 with line rental for Tiscali - I suggest there is a mistake there somewhere as my Dads is £14-99 without the line rental.

I thought technology was there to take stress out of our lives!!

You want to get your Dad to check out he link below, existing customers can upgrade ! I hear the chorus about Tiscali, but my son has had one service disruption in 2 years. Primus have been rubbish as well. Don't forget the earlier problems. This email thing has taken them over 2 weeks, that is despicable by any standards.

Thanks for the info I will pass it on - that is a great offer!
I suppose that we generally hear the bad side of a service as when it is going right most people just get on with it.
Most are now tying customers to an 18 month deal.
I wonder if the recent problems give Primus customers a loop-hole to get out of their contract?
