You shouldn't rely on ANY ISP for email.

For a couple of pound a year or so you can get your own domain and also if you pay the 60 or so pence per month for POP3 / SMTP access you don't have to worry about ISP email system, plus you can move ISPs as often as you want / can and still keep the same email address.

Similar cane be done with the likes of GMail, but I prefer my own domain.

    Good anti-spam device too !
  • I've been getting Send and receive error on outlook (0X800CCCOF) for couple of days now, is that the same problem as everyone else? I won't bother phoning them if it is. I think I need to look into GMail or maybe my own domain.

Thank you, Gromit. I haven't had e-mail for a couple of days now, the internet's running like a dog and I can't get through to them. I get the irritating robot woman who offers me 4 options, then when I choose Broadband, I get cut off. I can log into my account on their web site, but then anything I try to do hangs. I'm getting rather frustrated with them lately.

I suspect their problem is that they have no spam filters, so we're all having to filter spam on our PCs. Their servers must be taking such a hammering. They've got to sort it out ... as I'd tell them if I could speak to them.

Msmicawber, as far as I'm aware it's only their email service which is down...my broadband works fine, and same with the help line number. Incidentally, the latest estimated repair time is for this afternoon (Saturday)...in the meantime I'm off to Gmail to join everyone else ;-)

My post said no problems, but I now have not had any primus email for 2 days. Thank goodness for Google Mail.

  • Still no e-mail, anyone had an update from Primus?
  • Just noticed this today, as i am using Thunderbird, and the SMTP is using my Gmail SMTP server, i don't have the client set up to show what account the emails are coming from, and as i have 6 different accounts going into one inbox, that makes it even harder to notice when there is a problem, especially as Thunderbird isn't flagging a lack of contact to Primus Mail.

It was only after a friend sent me an email to another account, telling me that he had tried to send me an email, but got knocked back, that i tried sending myself an email using Yahoo, and got a similar error email sent back.

After using Primus for a year without any problems, that made my decision, of singing up for a new deal of line rental, broadband, 24/7 calls an easy one, but in the last few months, there seems to have been more problems, than ever, from the 3 days of no broadband, to email not working, missing bills, lack of billing..............

Enough is enough!! It will be good-bye Primus as soon as I finish my year's contract.
