I am sorry not to have checked in for a few days. She went as planned. It has been a lovely few days to be honest. Thanks for all your help and kind thoughts, I have genuinely been surprised and touched by your advice and help.
I have said to her that with a few BIG differences things could have worked out better, and I did take some responsibility by not establishing ground rules at the very beginning.

Now you have the space..........I am looking for somewhere to live:rotfl:
Seriously, congratulations on getting your life back. We had my MIL and FIL stay with us for four months after she had a heart attack. Nightmare!!0 -
Well done on sticking to your guns
I did think it had probably gone pear shaped so I'm really pleased to have been proved wrong

That's very kind hearted of you to say that, and to take some of the blame. Not many folk would stand up and admit they cuold have done things in a better way. God Bless you for recognising there's none of us perfect - you've come across as a really nice person who tries their utmost to please everyone - I'm sorry you seem to have been taken advantage of.
Give your family a big hug from all of us here on MSE, and tell them we wish them all the best.
p.s. Get a snooker table in Ma's old room pronto before your Uncle realises what a mistake he's made. There's one on freecycle, probably not near you, but your kids would love you for it.:rotfl:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Slight matter here - if I remember aright - the two children are both girls - so maybe wont like snooker - but the general principle of the idea is worth bearing in mind:D I dont know how old the children are - but it may well be that they are coming up to an age where they would like a bit more privacy/room - so perhaps they might have some ideas generally as to how they would like to see this extra houseroom used...
Also - OP and/or her hubbie might like: a hobbies room/a meditation room/an office/a study (delete as applicable)0 -
very well done. i know it was a really hard thing to do.
have to say that i do feel for her brother, who has had no warning at all!!!!!!!0 -

Anything that's too heavy or is 'installed' so can't be moved easily would do.:o
I know most families would like a room where the Wii, PC, swiss ball, big jigsaws etc. are set up so the kids can play with plenty of room but also have a room that is accessible to all.
We call our room like this the playroom, but it gets used for the washing screen too. Better than having them hanging around the living room.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Enjoy your family and when things calm down then you can start to rebuild the relationship with your mother - maybe by then she'll realise you did it not only for YOUR sake but hers too...
