that may explain the 10.* network.., possibly? Currently scratching my head, thinking how to undo it.. was it setup to use ICS?
Have you got any bridged networks in control panel, network connections?
in the end, the router should be the hub/interface between the internet and the laptop, and all other PC's shouldn't need to be on for the laptop to function and surf.
Could you answer my previous post fully, so that I know the current state of affairs? what did you ping? does the same thing happened wired (directly to the router), as wireless?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
there are no bridged connections on either machine but I am sure I saw one before somewhere, not sure where, could it have been when they had the laptop plugged into the second network card in the PC?
Yes that is what I am hoping for, that we can get the laptop working wirelessly without the PC being on.
with regards to your previous post, pinging https://www.google.com, brings up same wired or wirelessly. Also wired or wireless you can get to the belkin router setup pages but not internet.
To elaborate, ever since taking the earthernet cable between the 2nd PC network card and the laptop out and trying to connect things via the router, we have never had internet either wired or wirelessly, but belkin setup is accessible. it is like the same fault regardless of wired or wireless it appears to me, would you not agree?0 -
Hate to say this but your doing all this for nothing if you refer to my earlier post, you will find the solution, I will repeat it. the problem is that you have not set up a password protected network for some reason alot of wireless cards do not like connecting up to a unsecured network, it will say that its connected but when you start IE it will not connect up, go to the router config page a either use 64 or 128 encryption and it will connect0

is your fathers PC the main PC? cos the 10.0.0.138 IP address is the IP address of the Acatel modem so it's trying to route the internet out via that, which isn't connected. obviously.
Sounds like you may need to disable the ICS (internet connection sharing) on the main PC and remove the Acatel modem and drivers.. Also on the main PC disable the network cards for the moment so it can't try and run the old network.0 -

In Control Panel - Network Connections, right-click Wireless Network Connection and click Properties. In the 'This connection uses' list, double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Select 'Obtain DNS server address automatically' and click OK all the way out.0 -
ok, it's nothing to do with wireless, so let's forget about that for now, and concentrate on getting it working wired, direct to the router, and forget about the second pc.
on the laptop, could you go into control panel, networks connections, local area connection, internet protocol (tcpip), properties, and make sure obtain dns server addresses automatically is set, and also look on that screen , and advanced for any mention of 10.* and post what you see..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Well spotted there Mr Minton.. i didn't spot the DNS entries.. Probably why it's routing round the network for a way out trying to find the right DNS server.0

ok DNS is already set to automatically.
On advanced first tab "IP Settings" DHCP enabled is shown under IP address and atthe bottom Automatic metric is checked.
ON DNS tab, Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes is checked, Append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix is checked and at the bottom Register this connection's DNS suffix in DNS registration is checked.
On WINS tab Enable LMHOSTS lookup is cheked, and default under Netbios setting is checked.
On Options tab it displays TCP/Ip filtering under optional settings.
Hope this lot helps0 -
run the ipconfig /all again to make sure it's picked up the new DNS servers. Should be 192.168.2.1 and trying the tracert www.moneysavingexpert.com again0
-
it shows DNS servers as 195.121.1.34 and 195.121.1.66.
and the tracert comes up with unable to resolve target system name https://www.moneysa......0
