got wireless but no internet please help

Are you using XP Home or XP Pro? Have you installed SP2 (Service Pack 2)?
I'm still puzzled as to why the internet isn't working. If you want to continue investigating this problem I can only advise you to work carefully through all the suggestions in this thread again. As suggested by Albertross, compare the ipconfig/all output from the non-working laptop and the working desktop.
Also, try right-clicking your network connection (Local Area Connection, or Wireless - whichever you're using) and clicking Repair.0
