There is still no confirmation whether current o2 contract holders will be charged.

I STRONGLY think that you will be charged.
However Everyday 50 includes calls to 0870 (one fellow poster told me) why not search for a provider with 0870 number to your destination?

Then try 1 minute call to both and check for your bill to be sure.

Let me try and simplify things.

O2 are only going to charge for calls to 07744 numbers. If you have got inclusive cross network contract minutes or payg inclusive anytime anywhere minutes you can still use them to call 0844/0845/0870 intl dial through access numbers.

So therefore if the Intl Destinations you call via 07744 are also covered by 0844/0845/0870 numbers then you dont have a problem. Its only if they are not that you need to start worrying.

You also might find that suppliers start providing 0844/0870 access for destinations you can only reach via 07744 at the moment, if their is enough dosh in it for them. :D

oh this is fun. i was just about to sign up to an o2 x-net contract precisely for the international calls through 07744 numbers. I kind of understand the above. just to confirm, 0870/0845/0844 numbers are free from 02 x-network minutes at the moment? so calling one of the access numbers that begin 0844/5/70 will come out of the inclusive minutes (btw does anyone have have details for one of these other operators?).

i would prefer to go with o2 as they have double minutes and texts for the first 3 months on the tariff i want but i may end up going with orange.

Yes. Most of the destinations available from the most popular 07744 provider are available via 0844 numbers as well - see the MSE Callchecker for more details.

As for 0870/0844 numbers being in the O2 inclusive minutes, is that they're not classed as x-network minutes, so rather than having the O2 200 plan for £30 per month, you can have 1000 minutes (but only for other O2 mobiles, landlines, and of course 0870/0845/0844) but use them only between 7pm-7am, and you have far more minutes for £20 per month.

There are a few places offering 12 months free line rental as well!!

Until this post I thought I had got to grips with O2. Are 0870/0844 classed as being x-network or not? What are 1000 minutes and why would I rather have that than say 200 x-network minutes?

I can confirm all online tariffs 0844, 0870, 0845 are included in your xnet minutes.

for people that bought their contact from third parties not direct from o2, I suggest you use these numbers for a 1 or 2 minutes and wait for your bill to check whether you got charged.
