Just received notice in the post about the charges for 07744 calls. I'm not really concerned with it now since I've already complained to them and received a hefty discount (was given the option to cancel though).
I've gone through O2's T&C again, and under the section detailing yor right to cancel the contract due to increases in charges, no provision has been made where a 3rd party increase disallows you from cancelling. If they change the terms to your significant disadvantage, you have the right to cancel your contract; that's how it's worded, in a nutshell.8.4 You may end this Agreement by giving us written notice if:
(a) we break this Agreement in any way and we do not correct the situation within 7 days of your request;
(b) we go into liquidation or a Receiver is appointed over our assets; or
(c) we increase Charges for your Inclusive Calls or your monthly line rental charge or change this Agreement to your significant disadvantage, provided you give us a minimum of 30 days written notice (and provided you notify us within one month of our telling you about the changes). This does not apply where the increase or change relates solely to Additional Services in which case you may cancel, or stop using, that Additional Service.
They might consider 07744 an Additional Service, but since it was included in the core calling plan I doubt that's a leg they can stand on.
I hope someone working for O2 (or more familiar with the wordings of an airtime contract; I'm a student not a lawyer) would be able to clarify this issue, since O2 are using 'it's a 3rd party increasing its charges' as an excuse to lock thier customers into the new terms.0 -
you can cancel your O2 contract cause 07724 is increasing its make no different if it is being increase by third party.0

Ok I am an 02 online customer and have just received thisletter in the post, it states
"From 1st July 2006 there will be a small change to the terms and conditions of your mobile service. If you call a non-standard rate number that brgins with 07744 or 07755 from your 02 mobile, it will no longer be included in your monthly minute allowance. Instead, it will always be chargedat a flat rate of 25p a minute ( inc. VAT)"
Can someone please confirm whether this is a change to my terms and conditions? I feel it is but 02 seem to feel that it is not.MFWB

I received a letter today from O2 and from July 1st I will no longer be able to use 07744 or 07755 number, so I'll be making all my calls in the next 3 weeks!
Good while it latest! Be sure to let me know if anyone else spots any loopholes!0 -
teenage_Drama, 0844 numbers are included in most O2 calling plans which include calls to landlines.
MrGreen might have a point about using 0844 more than 0870 since it's supposedly cheaper for O2, but we don't really know how much the call-through providers' 0870 services are charging O2; could be a lot or very little but I think there's a cap on termination charges for 0870 calls as well.0
