I have contacted o2 and after about 1 hour on the phone I managed to cancel my contract, and they paid my bill for the 1 hour communication. First they keep saying it s their right to change terms and conditions as long as they give us 30 days notice. you just ask to speak to a teamleader as some customer agents do not even know there was a change in terms and conditions.

    good luck to you all

... he is stating fact O2 has now got new owners who just so happen to be foreign. ... Of course these things can happen if it was other UK company who brought them it is just in this case a spanish company has brought O2. Again of course it can be done before the takeover but very unlikely, it is something the new owner are doing to make more money/bring in line with their system etc.

O2 Ireland have cut roaming charges in Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK. So have two other Irish networks, but O2's announcement was the first. Was this an Irish or Spanish decision, given that it happened in March, well after Telefonica's taleover?

Eurotel in the Czech Republic is being rebranded to O2 rather than Telefonica. There have been announcements that roaming charges to their customers by two Czech networks are due to be cut in the near future, the first likely to be O2. The first of these decisions is probably by the parent company, the second a local one.

As a daft so and so, I'm unable to see how any of these actions is a detrimental consequence to customers that results from takeover by a foreign company.

Yesterday, two UK networks announced cuts in roaming charges. Last week Orange announced forthcoming changes, though some are increases. Where is O2 UK? Playing catch-up I think. Is this a British or Spanish management issue? Given that 2 other O2 companies are moving, but O2 Germany also isn't yet, I suspect that local decisions are taken locally.

Just offering another point of view...

We can still call 0800/0845/0870 numbers from our free minutes; no other operator's packages allow us to do that. Half the major networks already charge for 07744 calls and there's only one left who doesn't (Orange; I read earlier that Virgin doesn't charge earlier, can anyone confirm this). The current Orange tariffs aren't very good right now.

So although it's a lesser deal than before, I think that O2's tariff and the usability of their free minutes is still better than most of the competition - I think that's why they're so popular in the first place (aside from stellar coverage).

I've made some 10-second calls to 0844 numbers before, without being charged. However, some international calling websites also give an 0871 number - stay away from them as O2 charges 35ppm for calling them (8p for a 15-second call....)

Calls to 0844 numbers are included in some O2 Contracts.
