    @WelshBluebird

You can't really port with the PAC but what you should be able to do is request to go on PAYG using the same number, Orange will send you a PAYG SIM - when the sim arrives, put in the phone and activate it then your contract is ended, you can then upgrade to Contract again at a later date.
Its work noting that the older model iPhone not (3GS) is coming to Orange soon either late Sept or Oct for someone that mentioned iphone ;)

I just got off the phone with a very helpful guy, don't recall his name. I basically said that I was phoning with regards to the contract changes and was thinking of leaving and what could he offer me as an incentive to stay. I was on hold for awhile but he came back very amenable to me and asked what I was looking for and I said to get my contract down to ~£20 from £22.50 - done.

I probably could've got more, I don't believe it's too much of a stretch for Orange to cover the costs of my deal because it's similar to one of their SIM only packages.

The man was right in that lots of people are cancelling which is great if you've got a really expensive phone off them and a free gift, but you do end up paying more per month on the current off the shelf deals around all providers.

    Good luck to everyone else.

EDIT: Oh and you can choose to switch to PAYG on Orange whilst cancelling your contract (you keep your number). I guess this also applies to SIM only packages too.

One phone call to Orange, they offered me a 100 extra minutes and also pointed out that I have never gone over my minutes I listened politely thanked the rep but said I would like to cancel and asked for a PUK code, no issues, 30 days notice given.. O2 iPhone here I come!

However I would like to point out that Orange have always been amazing and if the were able to supply me with an iPhone I wouldnt leave them, when my phone was lost/stolen, they cancelled my phone then unocked it again the next day so I could try ringing it - they also sent me a new sim card free (waiving the £15 fee). If they ever manage to supply the iPhone I il switch straight back!

Orange will have the iphone soon but not the 3GS version Sept/Oct. not sure why you want one as there are many issues with them ( a bit like the xbox) a lot of users have had more than one

Yeah, HTC Hero on the way, paired with Unlimited data. Though nothing else was possible for me, bc I am not the biggest spender.

But much better than nothing :T

Aeh, forgot to ask: Unlimited data... does that include twitter?

    hi WinDoze,

sorry,I didn't explain that very well..orange have said I can cancel but I was wondering where it leaves me with my free gift and handset ( thru 'buymobilephones.net')
I read that Mobiles.co.uk customers were going to be able to keep theirs but am not sure about Buymobilephones.net customers.

Am scared to port my number until I am sure i am allowed to! dont want to be liable for the cost of a PS3 lol.

I just called Orange to ask if the changes will affect me...they won't. I'm already happy with my contract, and the service I get (I got a steal of a deal last time I renewed) so why would I want to cancel - just on Principle? Sure no more contract, but I'll only go and get another contract with another provider so what's the point?

The deal I got when I last renewed was 500mb of data each month free. This will not be changing - not on my contract anyway. They even gave me £5 as a good will gesture!

heads up on the pac code situation.

I cancelled monday, not received pac code in post yet.
Phoned up today to tell them this and the lady sent me the code there and then via text!!!

Why can't they do this straight away? i cancelled with 3 last month because of their change in conditions (13 months early and a free tocco ultra) and they texted me straight away......
