If you are being told it's going to be cancelled one day and then it's not the next day when you check then why not point out to them that all calls are recorded by them and they can check their records of what was said.

Also when should I look into a new phone? Is it wise to wait until close to the 30 days or should I do this as soon as I receive the PAC?

You’re told you can cancel, but you can’t have your PAC code
Orange don’t want your business going elsewhere and so are deliberately putting obstacles in your way. This includes planting the seed that you might lose your current mobile number - after all, you may have used that number for years.
Judging by the comments from Bitterwallet readers, Orange are telling plenty of customers they can’t have their PAC code (allowing them to transfer your number to another network). This is another lie. Unless there are complex issues with an account, Orange are required to transfer a customer’s number within 2 business days of being asked to.
    Action to take
Point out that Ofcom guidelines state that Orange are required to transfer your number - if you don’t currently have another service provider, then this means they must provide a PAC code for you to give to your next provider.
If they still refuse, point out they are in breach of Ofcom guidelines and you’ll be making a complaint. Or suggest they call an Ofcom specialist advisor on 0300 123 3333.

I cancelled mine this afternoon first time. I honestly don't remember if I got a text as I tend to delete texts from Orange straight away.

Anyway I phoned up this afternoon and said I wanted to cancel. I asked if they could transfer my number to an Orange payg sim (as I won't have cash for an iPhone till after my holiday in september). She put me on hold and said it was cancelled no questions asked. Didn't even ask if I got the text! She said I had to wait 30 days and i'd get a sim through the post. As soon as I register that it will finalise the cancellation. I was a bit wary as the woman seemed a moody !!!!! so I rung back this evening just to confirm and the second lady confirmed it had all gone through and it will end in 30 days.

A friend also cancelled today no questions. He didn't ask for a PAC or a Payg sim so a straight cancellation and was told 30 days also.

I'm just a bit concerned they might be trying to fob me off with 30 days to get people off the phone then when the 30 days its up its too late to cancel when you realise they lied. Has anyone else been told 30 days?

For those wanting to read the actual text

    Go to: http://emulator.mtld.mobi/emulator.php?webaddress=orangeworld.co.uk%2Fr%2F14%2F&emulator=nokiaN70&Submit=Submit

    Edit

It seems like the calls made to international numbers will cost more then quoted in the June 09 tariff, therefore that should be a enough of a reason to cancel

When you use the PAC code it will cancel out the contract. You can use the PAC code as soon as you receive it.

Hi am new to this forum.

Have been wanting to cancel my contract with orange but dont have the code yet, would i be better waiting till i get the txt??

Also am only 4 months into my contract with mobiles.co.uk if i did cancel would i need to send them my mobile back? Surley not as its diffrent terms and conditions from when i took my contract out.

Any info on this would be appreciated thatks.
  • Yes also told 30 days. My understanding is that as soon as the PAC code is used with a another provider the contract is then terminated. The 30 days is the notice period given so I assume line rental will be payable up to this date?

I get very confused with phone contracts:o

My billing date is the 5th of each month. So on the 5th August I will have a bill for calls made in July and line rental for August (I think). So as I am cancelling now I assume I pay line rental to end of August (or 30 days from now). Will I then receive another bill in September (5/9 billing date) for any calls made between 5th August and 5th September? - Although this should be none.

When you say 'cancel the contract' does that mean no line rental is payable after this date?

right let say that u get 400 mins for 30 quid a month.

u have just handed in the notice therefore ur 30 days starts today so that ur contract expires 28 aug.

on the 5 aug u r gonna pay for any additional call u have made in july plus 30 quid for the period 6 aug - 5 september and u will get an allowance of 400 mins.

however as ur contract expires on the aug 28 there are 7 days which ur going to get a refund for i.e. 8 quid or so. u have all 400 mins to use up until aug 28.

if u however use ur PAC the sim will be disabled as soon as u use it causing u to loose any unused minutes although u would still pay the line rental up to aug 28

    hope this clarifies
