  • Basically Orange staff are doing all they can to stop you canceling!!!

My first attempt (which i lied and said I got the text) said I had to give him the reference from the text which I tried to talk myself out off by saying I can't read a text while talking on it so I give up on that attempt.

Second attempt got through to a different person who has cancelled my phone with immediate effect (as soon as a i hung up my phone wouldn't get signal at all)

My Partner however, who did get the text, only managed to cancel it on the 8th attempt and persuaded them by saying they are going against consumer direct which is a government organisation!

Best advice is to read this forum as it has all the information you need to get it cancelled and what they try and do to stop you!

Just like to thank everyone for there input!

I'm at a loss, they say the Racoon 12month packages are new and include the new charges...I don't know who to believe!!!

I signed up on 28th May 09....so it was before June!

Okay...let me put this way...has anyone signed up in May 09 to a Racoon package (12/18mth) managed to CANCEL PLEASE?....

It affects ALL domestic tariffs from 1994 onwards, excluding the EQ Virgin tariff, even the June09 ones.

Thanks for the heads up guys.
My situation, I last month renewed with a free Nokia 5800 on a 18 month contract. I pay £25 per month for 400 mins, 100 text and 500Mb "unlimited" data.
I want to stay with Orange if possible, but of course out of principle, not right for them to have us over a barrel and change terms as they wish...

I phoned them up and first they wanted the reference number from the text, though I had already deleted it (stupidly). I asked them to check their records since they had sent it this morning. Got past that one.
They then told me I didn't use anywhere near even half my minutes. I told them that 0845 etc were not included in my minutes so I could be affected (even though I don't call any!), and also if I chose to use up all my minutes one month.
I asked them what they could do to keep me. After being on hold, I was offered a one-off £10 goodwill gesture. I said no, so the woman was quite stroppy and said "well we can disconnect you today, right now". I told them to hang on, since I hadn't sorted anything else out yet, and was told only she had made the decision and the offer might not be there later. Anyway I hung up.

I did my research, and O2 are offering SIM only 30 day rolling contract, 600mins, 1200 text, unlimited data for £20 per month. I phoned up Orange again armed with this information...

I explained my situation again, and said if they could match it (O2), I would stay, they couldn't but offered to disconnect. I asked how much to unlock my phone - he said I'd have to give the phone back. I pointed out it's not part of the contract, got a bit uneasy...
I then offered to stay if they could take my cost down to £20 per month. Was put on hold and eventually, he came back and said they'd do that (£5 per month credit) for the remaining 17 months of my contract, so long as I waiver my right to any further claims as a result of this T&C change.
    Result!
  • I just phoned them up and cancelled too lmao. Took all of 5 minutes. And whats even more pleasing for me is i worked all this out before looking at this thread, excellent :)

Are you 100% that it also includes the June 09 contracts?

The last 2 advisers I spoke to, told me that as I signed up after 1st June 2009 my contract won't be affected. They even told me that they've put a note on the system, saying that I'm not entitled to cancellation.

It looks like they think that the June 09 contracts are going to stay at the 5p minimum cost and not rise to the 15p like the older contracts. This didn't make any sense to me, because why would they raise the old contract prices and not the new ones?!

Has anyone else who had a contract taken out last month got anywhere with this?

    Edit

I've just managed to find the June 09 Price plan and it does state on page 15 that the cost of calling 0845 and 0870 is 20p and voicemail is 12p

Therefore it seems like I accepted this plan when I signed up for it last month. Only thing that confuses me is the minimum call charge of 4.9p being raised to 14.9p. It doesn't state this change anywhere on the price plan and if in fact they're raising this price, then therefore this change should be grounds for making the contract void.

I'm more confused...I phoned up in the morning and was told that my Racoon 12month tariff taken out on 28th May wasn't affected by the tariff change etc.. rang again and was told that I haven't received a text so I'm not affected, only if receive a text then I will be affected....

what do I do now!! as I haven't received the text!

Is it possible to use this to get a discount? I'm currently paying £15 p/m and it would be nice to lower that, even if only by a tiny bit.
