    Does anyone know the exact date these changes were announced and if this can be used to "back date" the termination of the contract? i.e. if i cancelled yesterday and my new billing cycle started yesterday? Is this possible I would love to reclaim my phone bill as I went over my minutes quite a bit.

    If someone can provide the exact date when this was issued and also if this will be possible?

    I was originally on the 500mb plan, and I rang up on the 23rd to go back to my original plan without knowing these changes were occuring and I was told that I was only going to be given the 250 package - at that time I said I was not accepting this please let me know if I will be able to reclaim my last months bill.

    many thanks

    I seem to recall a couple of posts of yours. You seemed really happy when you were eventually able to cancel because of this change as you had wanted to cancel before the change was announced. Now you want to know if you can 'back date' changes that don't even happen until September? Are you real? I think you 'won a watch' here. You can try to reclaim your bill, good luck.

    After a bit of thinking about whether to bother or not, thought I'd give trying to cancel my contract a go. Called Orange and spoke to a really helpful chap - conversation went a bit like this:-

    Me - Hi, calling about the increase in charges and would like to cancel contract please

    Lovely man - yep, no problem can do that immediately. You need to send your phone back please

    Me - err, don't believe I have to do that

    LM - nah, you don't - we just have to say that to you (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) You going for an iphone? (!!!!! again!!!!)

    Me - would like to but too expensive ha ha

    LM - well this is an excellent way to get out of your contract eh! Apparently Orange have put on the website you can cancel - we're all a bit bemused by it!! Nice talking to you, have a nice day and PAC code will be with you in next 3 days or so.

    I'm still in shock!!

    Im just wondering, im actually happy with orange (the signal is excellent in my area),but a new phone wouldnt go amiss.
    If I used this to cancel my contract do you think they would let me take out another contract with themselves afterwards.
  • I have just had to claim on my insurance due to loosing my phone - do you think they will cancel my contract after their orange care insurance just issued me a new one???

    I just rung them up and got a man who sounded a bit grumpy and brash. His first questions was "Did you receive the text message" I said "no my friend did" to which he said the changes didn't apply to me then. I said "So you are saying the minimum call charges are applying to certain customers and not others?", he went and checked with his manager came back and gleefully said "yes that's right, you can only cancel if you got the text message, otherwise your call charges aren't affected".

    Surely this isn't right? Some people's charges are going to increase and others not? He also denied that my internet package of £5 a month would be going up to £7.50 for have the data allowance.

    Ok I just rung back and got a lovely lovely man called Lee. I said I want to cancel my contract based on the increased call charges and he said ok, that's it cancelled for you!!! I said what about keeping my number and he said that was a bit different, he's sending me about my PAC code and once I take that to my new network the orange contract will be cancelled! He didn't say anything about sending the phone back either and gave me his extension number because I was worried I was going to hit with a hefty bill - £371 worth of contract remaining.
  • Hi guys... Some great info here about the cancellation of orange contracts... and will hopefully be cancelling mine tommorow.

    But.. if i do cancel my contract with orange does that automatically cancel my £5 a month broadband that I have with them???

    That address does not work in a regular browser, unless perhaps
    connected via Orange GPRS/3G. So, this is what's there:

    Changes to your monthly plan============================
    From 14 September we'll be changing the cost of mobile internet browsing
    and some calls outside of the allowance included in your plan.

    Mobile internet browsing down to just 58.7p a day
    =================================================
    From 23 September our mobile browsing charges are changing. Instead of
    paying £2.94 per MB up to a maximum of £1.47 per day, you will be
    charged a flat rate of 58.7p per day, subect to a 25MB fair use policy.
    If you have a mobile internet browsing bundle this will also be the
    daily rate applied if you go over your allowance. [1]

    Calls in the UK
    ===============
    From 14 September if you exceed your inclusive minutes, the minimum call
    charge will be 14.7p for calls made to mobiles, fixed lines and your
    Answer Phone. If you regularly use more than your inclusive minutes we
    have alternative call plans that could benefit you. [2]
  • I cant believe they are saying if you didnt get the text message then you cant cancel, they obviously dont know who they have sent the message out to anyway so they would be none the wiser.

    Just because you havent gone over your minutes, that doesnt mean you couldnt tomorrow so why should you put up with the increased call charges just because so far you have stayed within your allocation.

    What a crock - sounds like a get out to me, I wouldnt buy it
