I would also be bl00dy livid with one sited as you describe.
Why are we paying some council idiot a fortune to make bad decisions.
Get your local councillor involved and ask him if he`d like it directly across from his house, when with a bit of thought, it could easily be located in a more suitable position.

NIMBY is an acronym used to describe "officialdom" who grant permission for plans and developments as long as it`s not anywhere near where they live.

No it's not. It's anyone who wishes a development to go ahead as long as it doesn't personally affect them. Doesn't have to be officials.

In which case you once had people walking down the street, able to look through your window.

Now you have people sat on a bench, able to look through your window.

Actually, the people walking past....walk past! They are usually looking where they are going, straight ahead.

There is a porch next to my window which juts out slightly and on the other side the shopfront juts out by a couple of feet. Not much, but it means my window is in a 'slight' recess. People walking past may not even realise there is a window there until the 'moment' it takes to walk past, so net curtains/blinds are not necessary.

The bus stop however, has people sitting for up to half an hour at a time, with nothing to do, facing square-on directly to the window, all day long.

Vertical blinds do the trick and look so much better than net

P.s. I HATE net curtains. Net curtains are for old ladies with cats that smell of wee (both ladies and cats). Over my dead body will I get net curtains!

It sounds like your best approach is not to get the council to remove the bus stop, but simply ask them to turn it around, just like the other bus stops in the street.

Inward facing bus stops seem quite common around here, useful to avoid pax getting splashed by passing cars if anything.

Accepted even though your splitting hairs in the context of this thread.

Check out that story from the YEP in Leeds. This person lives on the opposite side of the road to my parents, (not directly opposite as in your case though).

Also looking at your pictures you have some sort of buildings opposite you anyway, what is to say the people in those buildings are not looking straight into your house?

If you don't want people looking and you live on main road like that, the best idea would be to get some blinds.

Now that would be worth watching :D.

Second thoughts, I'll leave the shelter where it is, dig a big hole in the road, get a video camera and watch the money roll in from Harry Hill!

It's just a large wall surrounding a large playing field. There is a school within, but it's a lot further away then it looks in the photo, so it's not a problem.
