Seems like an ideal solution has been mentioned several times in the shape of blinds.

Any chance of a similarly ridiculous excuse to not use them as that that was offered for the net curtains?

Blinds block out light. I know you can turn them, but that means partially blocked out light. They're also expensive and I don't have spare cash at the moment.

The point is the council should not have put up the shelter without consultation and representations from people it would affect. It only affects me. They could have put it elsewhere without it affecting anyone, or they could have put it facing the other way. Simple.

They just didn't bother. That's not fair & it's wrong.

Also, if the existing bus stop is just outside the picture, wouldn't you still have a line of people standing waiting for the bus, rather than sitting in the bus shelter, still looking through your window?

I don't see why most of the replies on here (not all) are having a pop at the OP for a perfectly reasonable complaint. Apart from anything else, what might it do for the value of her house should she wish to sell in the future?

At the very least I think she should apply for a band reduction in her Council Tax.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I would just like to make it clear that I am not having a pop at anyone.

My point is if there was already a bus stop there originally I doubt much will be done about it.

I agree I would hate a bus stop like that outside my window, but if I had a problem with it I would have kicked up a fuss when the shelter was being built.

However, if there was already a bus stop and there wasn't a problem before when people were standing in line waiting, I can't understand why it would be a problem for the same people to sit in a shelter and wait?

Also if I lived on a main road and valued my privacy to such an extent as the OP, I would just get some blinds so people could not look in.

The story I posted on here was about a new bus shelter being placed directly outside a persons home, where no bus stop had ever been before or even within a reasonable distance.

I've sat at a lot of bus stops in my day - can honestly say I've never thought to look into the houses opposite..Or maybe I did, but they had net curtains or blinds up..

Vertical blinds do block some light when opened up but not much you can let in as much light as you want I think they let more light in them many nets

I have vertically blinds in front of house and they are great admittedly they did costs around £500 to get measured and fitted but you can do it cheaper yourself and may get it a lot less than that for some cheap ones

I guess the Op will be ok in a few years time when she gets old and has a cat smelling of wee (or was that she will smell of wee?) and then she can get some net curtains, until then I agree that the shelter ought to be turned the other way.

Blinds are a silly idea. The bus driver wouldn't be able to see if there was anyone waiting at the stop or not, and those queuing would have to keep sticking their head out to see if the bus was coming down the road.
