For God's sake OP, just get some net curtains!

Why should they just because some idiots at the council can`t find a suitable location to site a bus shelter.
I bet they wouldn`t want one outside their house.
    NIMBYS

Hands up all those who wouldn`t mind one outside their properties, with yobos congregating and acting silly..

How many other houses on the OP's street have net curtains?? If I were the OP, I would have net curtains even if the bus stop wasn't there.
I have net curtains in my property, and I live at the end of a cul de sac, so no bus stop, not a busy road, and my house is set back 5 yards from the pavement. The bus stop has to go somewhere on that road - if it's not opposite the OP's house, it would be opposite someone else's house.

Exactly. NIMBY is entirely accurate in this instance.

It has been outlined in this thread some ideal solutions. As others have said I wouldn't want to be sitting in my living room with people walking (never mind standing or sitting) past looking in!

Would you want it outside yours.

Do what a former neighbour of mine did and gesticulate wildly at them whilst calling the police to get the undesirables moved on. Which they did - frequently. Soon, nobody used the bus stop because of the mad old bat who got the police to hassle us whenever we sat there.

And from more recent experience, you could call Env Health and complain about folk smoking there - My local bus firm has ripped-up loads of shelters recently to avoid the risk of prosecution - even where the shelter was fully complaint (subtext is they really don't want to pay to keep them up)

Alternatively, it looks like a pipe cutter would have it down in no time. ;)

It's across the road from the OP's house, not right outside his house.
The main complaint the OP has is that people look directly into his front room from the bus shelter - a problem that can be easily addressed by the installation of net curtains. It's not rocket science, is it?

    OK,
Would you want it across the road from your house where people can look directly into your front room?

    YES or NO

 You haven't read the thread maninthestreet (butnotontheball).

So now I have to repeat myself again, which is very tiresome. (big sigh!)

Mine is the only property right on the street on this part of the road (apart from next door, which is a shopfront, not a living room!). The rest are set well back from the road, having very long front gardens.

Further along, the road at the next bus stop, (where there are houses opposite with smaller front gardens), they have turned the bus shelter on the opposite side around so it faces away (back of shelter to their windows).

The council has just been careless in my case & that's why I'm angry.

P.s. I HATE net curtains. Net curtains are for old ladies with cats that smell of wee (both ladies and cats). Over my dead body will I get net curtains!
