If TalkTalk are going to make a £50m loss this year as a result of giving away free 24/7 calls why are they doing it? This doesn't sound like a good thing for a company interested in increasing profit to do... What I assume is happening is you will loose £50m worth of revenue from call charges but gain increased customers and increased revenue from the new customers being on a higher monthly tariff (regardless of calls being free). To say that TT will loose £50m a year from this isn't quite right.
Picky I know. But let's remember that Talk Talk aren't doing this for the benefit of customers. This is a fantastic deal and one that I am sure Talk Talk are planning on making money out of!!

TalkTalk should be sorting out all the problems they have with the broadband first, before giving it away free.

Granted this is probably due to them relying on BT Wholesale, as BT changed the way they charged ISPs for the use, which meant traffic shaping had to be introduced.

But TalkTalk broadband has been shoddy from day one, they lie to their customers, how do we know even when they get their own equipment in they aren't going to still be running a shoddy service.

What is the point of having 8Mbit broadband when their system falls over all the time, when your downloading is shaped so much you are lucky if you get 0.5k/s.

When TalkTalk started out in the landline business they were pretty good, and I'd recommend them to anyone, they lost all credibility when they launched their broadband, as everyone was dying to leave once they found how poor it was.

Then you have their line rental and all the problems and barriers that causes.

Get your broadband working first, before trying to give it away!

    hello Samara

although i do know that we won the uswitch award for best customer service.

    You're avin' a giraffe!

They have to be, knowing how uSwitch and TalkTalk work, TalkTalk probably paid them higher than the other suppliers.

We all know how dodgy uSwitch are, gives you confidence doesn't it when TalkTalk think a Uswitch award is good!

You've gone a bit quiet Inside scoop!
Sorry, if you are not a CPW planted rep, then it's refreshing to see that you've invested so much time today in this forum trying to help a company you obviously value and must enjoy working for.
Perhaps you could pass your ethics back within and try to improve all the problems that are being experienced by so many MSE's. Good luck!

BexTech - i never commented on whether the uswitch award was good or bad - merely that we had won it.

As far as i know, Uswitch are completely impartial and independent.

Thank you for this message, i was beginning to wonder whether submitting these posts was worth the hassle. I do enjoy working here but that aside i will always be honest in my posts. If something is not clear i will try to explain it fully - even if it makes us look bad.

I think the TT offer is a good one, if only if it stimulates other providers to try to compete (in one form or another). My concern is down to traffic shaping and concern that their service (what ever level it is at currently) will degenerate (as in Bulldog).

    Don't laugh but I'm a E7 user

  • Ok, the website is wrong and will be amended. The actual number is 0871 226 7146 and the lines are open 8am - 10pm. Calls are charged at 10p/min which is the standard cost for and 087 number (this is correct as of today - technical support charges may vary in the future)

If you want to quite prior to the end of your 18 month contract then it is the LOWER of £70 or the cost of your remaining service charge (no. of months x £20.99)

    Hope this helps!

And to clarify an earlier point, does that apply if you move house and so terminate a contract even if there is a back-to-back "new" contract at the new place (assuming TT availability blah blah)?

BTW I second those that say you've been very helpful and if you are in any way representative of the kind of people who work at CPW then it stands the lot of you in good stead. I'm not a customer but I would be! Not sure if that's very helpful but...

CS at TalkTalk are friendly, but useless due to them working for a shoddy service, they do try hard but are let down time after time due to the company they work for. Most aren't happy there due to the poor product they offer.

I get the feeling some of you are against TalkTalk just because you were found out and now you have nothing good to say about them.
I have said before i have been with them for two years with landline and bb and recently changed to their line rental. I have had no problems whatsoever and have had no need to even think about changing. I have been on to customer service a few times and have had no complaints about the way my query was answered and have always had any problem/need rectified very quickly.
Surely the deal they are offering must be good for the majority of bb users who only wish to browse the net and download a reasonable amount without trying to download the whole of the world wide web in one month.

I was with them and from day one they were useless, I got a written apology for the poor service and a MAC without penalty. It was 2.5 months of hell.
