jaybee - why do you think I choose to live in such a bl**dy horrendously expensive city? :D

I worked out that my expenditure on my music habit (which includes cheap tickets for 2-3 concerts or operas a week in London, subscription to Opera magazine, subscription to Friends of Covent Garden which is vital for the priority booking, a budgeted day to day overspend throughout the entire Proms season, Proms Arena Season Ticket, standing room tickets for Glyndebourne plus travel and picnic, etc etc etc) works out about the same as a 40-a-day cigarette habit  but is much healthier :D

I hardly buy any CDs or DVDs though (don't need them with all that live music!) and am weaning myself off programmes ;)

I used to travel up to London regularly when I was younger (and had a very well paid job!) just for an evening out. Used to get back home at about 3:00am and then get up to go work!! Those were the days. I was also lucky enough to have a friend living in Milan so several times a year I was able to go over there for the weekend to go to La Scala. Her husband's company had a permanent box there so when it wasn't being used we could go for FREE!

Enjoy it all while you can. Are you going to go to Covent Garden to see the production of the Marriage of Figaro which was televised a few weeks ago? It was a fantastic production.

I can smell my bread wafting upstaits so I'd better go and see if it's ready to come out!

    Oops!! Nearly forgot -
    Happy Birthday Black Saturn

  • Maybe CQ can be the new boardguide for OS:confused:

Washing is blowing on the line. OH treated me to me fav baguette for lunch...naughty but nice-but not very OS. SIL is coming in the morning instead of today, and toilet has been cleaned.

OH is panicking about his exam on friday and Ive emailed my tutor about my TMA-hopefully may get a further extension and they would have sent my assessment to her also.
Have my folks down on Saturday for the day:eek: mainly for them to see DD. Mum has bought her a new DS game costing £40, but she has more money than sense! Mum wants to discuss wills and their estate, so its going to be hard going me thinks. Hoping we can get out to lunch as I dont want to be stuck indoors with them all day! She likes going to Makros, so will need to borrow electric scooter from FIL if Im up to it and we go. If not, I may pack off OH and DD with them and leave me here at home..LOL.

Got to go and do some more reading.

  • Afternoon all. Sorry to hear people are having trouble sleeping - hope it sorts its self out soon!

Last night after spending most of it cleaning, and unpacking I gave all my efforts to trying to find my glasses but didn't. My friend popped round about ten came in picked up a bag which I swear I had moved a dozen times and there they were, so went to bed chuffed. Got up this morning and realised I'd parked my car the other side of town and forgotten - like you do, so enjoyed a nice walk in the drizzle. Stopped at MacD's for bagels, then had a meeting this morning which went well, stopped at Bakers for lunch. As you can tell money is outta control at the moment, but once unpacked and oven bought I will return to homecooking again.

Will continue cleaning and unpacking some more tonight. Have no idea of spendies over last few weeks and still solicitors bill to come - nightmare. May is going to be the month when I rein my spending in, and start living to budget again. Will also work out my SOA. (I'm not looking forward to seeing how much I owe but am looking forward to taking control of my finances again). Have budgeted for £35 for food so will be taking pack lunches with me and cooking at home again. (Sorry for waffling but am trying to convince myself).

    Bye for now

    PS Happy Birthday Black Saturn!

Hope you find your glasses The New Caz! I've misplaced my prescription sunglasses - annoying, but also completely inexplicable, given that the last time I remember seeing them was when I brought them home from the opticians and put them away in a drawer in their case

Happy birthday also to Miss Glad :D

    ENVY ENVY ENVY!!!!! :D

I normally manage to get freebies or cheapies at the ENO cos I write reviews - and I know so many people on the staff ;) - but a free box at La Scala is but a far-off dream :D:( (especially seeing as I don't currently have a budget for foreign travel so would have to save up/sacrifice other things to get there)

I went on the first night. It was an excellent production, although the last act went on a bit because they left in all the parts that are normally cut! I love David McVicar's productions in general, they always strike the right balance between "modern and quirky" and "traditional and easy on the eye".

    Hi everyone!!
Still not heard about my job or not...the government dept have put the date forward to 28th April. Hopefully it'll be good news but either way I'd like to know so that I can plan!
Am feeling very smug in my new skirt today...Monsoon, fully lined and wool in mint condition for £4.25. Didn't need it but my material girl was wanting to be consoled. :D
The nettle soup at the weekend worked really well. I made it for my entire family who really enjoyed it as they haven't had it before
Not much OS today as am here until 3pm and then need to pick up the small person. Hoping that there might just be time to pick up a couple of CDs I've spotted in a sale which would be perfect for some birthdays next month [May through to July is an expensive time for me on the birthday front  ]
Shall be making quiche with apple and red onion for tea tonight. Actually got my act together and made the pastry yesteray.OH nearly fainted as I don't 'do' pastry normally he does :rotfl:
Other than that I've got my parents' cat to feed then I'm off down the pub for an un-OS evening!!

    hello

Black Saturn - Happy birthday petal! Have a lovely day.

Snowy et al - Hope the sleeping gets better. Insomnia is horrible and not to be wished upon anyone. I can't offer anything other than the normal suggestions like lavender, but hugs to you all.

Squeaky - so sorry to see him go. We will miss you!

ronanKfan - hope that you had a great wedding aniversary

rzl - sorry to hear that your boss isn't so hunky anymore ;)

well my exam this morning went ok. Fingers corssed i managed to get enough marks to do well :) There was the normal panic about being late (it's my big thing - always early for everything). Anyway, ended up being there an HOUR early. at least it setted my nerves. lol :D

next one not till saturday morning and as a treat going to the Scottish Rugby cup final in the afternoon. Yippeeeee. hunky men in tight shorts ;)

We all went for lunch after the exam and i was really disapointed. The place was overpriced and quite frankly the food wasn't good. Anyway - everyone contributed to a tip - but i refused as the service and food wasn't impressive. felt bad at the time for looking like a skinflint, but to me a tip is all about exceeding expectations. Oh well.

now i feel like i have the afternoon to 'party' but should really do more studying. Feel a manic cleaning session coming on. Think it's called procrastination - i always want to decutter cupboards whenever an exam looms lol.

    Well have a good afternoon

i haven't been around much recently - just not had time - but have been doing all my OS cooking so it's ok! i'm shocked that squeaky's going... it's a shame, but it must be a huge job to moderate this board.... it's going to be tough for whoever takes over his mantle!

anyway - happy birthday to black-saturn (btw - i don't think i ever PM'd you to tell you that I made those chocolate mousses and someone asked where i'd bought them - no-one's ever asked me that before!). hope you have an amazing day!

moggins - hope there's nothing sinister at the school - that did make me go all cold.... but it's good that you noticed though.....

i'm going to try and read a few more threads then must get back to the dreaded w**k
