Tiger-greeneyes, what a horrible situation for you. Hope you don't mind a few thoughts from me.

From what you've said it's highly likely your mum will follow her husbands wishes anyway, will aside, being there at her beck and call won't make her feel any different about you, sad as that is. Your health and well being are the important things and being in the middle of something like this must be soul destroying. Mentally and physically draining. Distancing yourself a bit is a good idea.

We all want to please our parents and feel loved, and sometimes we do things we don't really want to do because we want their approval, whatever age we are.

Hoping you find the right balance and can rise above the nastiness. It's hard not to stand up for someone when you see an injustice, but sometimes you have to just step back and let them make their own decision.

Oh, and your step brother sounds like a right *&&hole and your life will be better when you never have to deal with him again

......shouldn't my stepbrother be grieving ......

Since you and your stepbrother don't exactly share cosy conversations, I think it's probably difficult for you to know precisely what his feelings are. You've only your mother's word and I'm beginning to doubt her total veracity.

Fair enough - although when my Dad passed away, the last thing I could ever think of was grabbing money. In fact, it's 13 years since he died and I'm still grieving on and off. I didn't feel comfortable even discussing my father's financial affairs with my brother, let alone it being just about the first thing on my mind
