Gary, I sent a ticket asking them if they would like to match O2 with a month backdate, or send a MAC code.

Got nowhere with raising ticket so phoned and retentions offer for 50gb is £19.99 for 12month contract.
Not quite as good as O2 but saves hassle of changing.

o2 is £12.50, nothing to do with BT, and twice as fast or more, with freephone UK call centres! And definitely no hassle. (Only £7.50 if you have an o2 payg or contract). And not just 50gb - its unlimited.

So quite a bit different to £20 with maaf!

Hi yes I know Quentin, but I'm outside of 02 area so it would have been £17.50 for me with O2.
Thanks for your info though - def worth switching for someone in o2's area.

What I disklike about what happened is that last month, I paid £24 excess usage (£40 in total for the month) and MAAF did not alert me to upgrading my package and would not backdate the switch to 50 gig package, even though I have been with them for almost two years.
It's only thanks to this website that I realised how much I was overpaying.
The only way MAAF would budge on their price of £29.99 for 50gb was when I phoned and asked for my MAC code. Don't bother raising tickets if you want best price, phone and ask for MAC code and even then I possibly could have negotiated down on it (I didn't bother to try.)

No where near as good as O2 and it's no hassle to switch!

Why put up with an ISP that treats you like that?

Now you mention it, I'm thinking twice.

I agreed on the phone to a 12 month contract renewal with MAAF for 50gb. If o2 come to my area in that time, I would be paying well over the odds.

Do you know if I have a cooling off period to a contract agreed by phone and confirmed by email, on a service that is a continuation?

In Samara's time, they let you out early in the second year with a month's notice, and only asked for payment of the difference between the retention deal and the normal monthly charge for the time the second year had been running.

The Ts + Cs allow you to leave in the first 12 months of a contract, (so it isn't a 12 month minimum term), but you have to pay the setting up costs - and as there are none in year 2, then this should still be the case.
You may terminate this Agreement within the first 12 months after the Commencement Date if you agree to pay us all the costs that we have incurred in setting up your Broadband Service.

    They specifically wrote tho:

Please note as this is a new 12 months contract if you do decide to cancel before this period you would be liable for the remainder of the contract.

    Have you accepted that?

Seems sharp practice to make extra conditions for retentions than are in place for new customers in year 1.

When they say it's a "new" contract, you should be given the ts + cs and accept them before its binding.

    Thanks again Quentin.

You are right, I should have been sent all the details of the offer. They can't bind me to something not clearly set out.

I've emailed to ask them about it but no reply so far.
