Sure - But we'd always refund if any mistakes were made anyway. I can 100% promise you of that.

Generally, paying for a service does actually help despite contrary opinion ;)

I don't mind paying for any service - what I do mind is paying for something I shouldn't have paid for !

    It's the hassle involved.

Much easier to just call on the direct debit guarantee and let the bank sort it out.

    Sure, I understand that :)

Sometimes though, card payments are a bit easier as you can set those up straightaway and don't need to wait for DDI's to become active and so on. do totally get where you're coming from though.

when I set up my account with MAAF I set up a direct debit - unfortunately a 'system error' prevented the first direct debit being taken from the bank and I received an almost threatening email telling me that if I didn't pay 60p immediately my service would be suspended.

I phoned and had to pay 60p on my debit card.

The next direct debit didn't go through and I was threatened again - eventually 2 direct debit payments for the same amount were taken.

I subsequently cancelled my account with MAAF, it was the longest two months of my life, and I cancelled the direct debit.

More system errors generated a bill of 97p and 10.98 - these was taken from my debit card (without authorisation).

I have since been refunded £10.96 (by cheque) - I wonder if those 'system errors' have been rectified for all the other customers.......I doubt it !

James, fair enough, you do refund eventually but the thing is, these errors shouldn't be happening !

I have been with the post office since migrating away from MAAF and everything has gone perfect - they have received 2 payments, no mistakes have been made and my life is happy and stress free again.

Rang to discuss offers. Young lady started with the standard 6+6 offer from website. Said I didn't need the router they were offeing & asked for 9.99 for 12 months, offered flat rate of 13.99! Pointed out this was more than 6+6 offer? Came down to 11.99 for 12 months, asked for 10.99, consulted with supervisor agreed10.99 for 12 months to start at next payment. Verbal agreement & was happy with this, however 5 minutes later received a call back to say they would offer me 9.99 for 12 months. Just waiting now to see if I get another call offering even cheaper!!!

What package was this for ?

I would be interested to find out.

The direct debit guarantee is also extra protection for maaf customers.

Unusually, the maaf ts + cs get customers to agree that if the customer instigates a credit card dispute, which results in the customer getting a refund, then the customer must immediately repay maaf the amount won back, or face disconnection!

If no credit card numbers are handed over, this bizarre situation cannot arise!

I had a similar telephone conversation. 1st the standard offer. I said I found a deal of 9.99 a month. She went and "chatted with her supervisor" then came back with 11.99 for 12 month. I said no. Then came the offer of £9.99 for 12 month. Decided to take it.

    cheers ergm

This £9.99 is being offered by the retentions department (ie by phone, not via pm).
