    Hi Samara

Could you tell me how much the 0870 tech help number costs per minute please. Also is it cheaper at Off-Peak?

    Many thanks

  • Hi Izzitme,

The 0870 number for tech support is a National Rate number and what you're charged does depend on who you use for your phone calls. We've seen the cost range between 2 pence and 8 pence per minute.

    Kind regards,
    Samara

    Hi Madasafish Customer Care,

I'm about to sign up to your Broadband (as soon as I get my MAC from Wanadoo)- just wanted to check whether I can transfer my current domain name to you instead of claiming a new free domain? I currently have a .net domain and it would prove cheaper to move it than to have my site hosted elsewhere...

    Thanks,

    RR
  • Hi Riffraff,

We do take transfers of domain names, however they must end in .co.uk, me.uk or .org.uk. I'm afraid that we're not set up to be able to accept an inbound transfer of a .net or .com domain name.

You could use our services to claim the .co.uk equivelent of your domain name so you have the .net and .co.uk versions.

    Kind regards,
    Samara

With broadband, we can only guarantee the connection from the master socket, however that's not to say that it won't work from your phone extensions.

The reason that we cannot guarantee the connection from phone extensions is that there is no set standard to which all phone extensions are installed. We have noticed that on ADSL MAX (otherwise known as "speeds up to 8MB") that internal wiring in a house can have a greater effect on the quality of service.

To eliminate the problem of phone extensions, you could invest in a wireless router which you can have plugged into your master socket. All wireless ADSL routers should work on our services (with exception to those that are network locked, certain ISPs supply networked locked routers to keep your custom). If you buy a wireless router through any high street shop, it should work on our services. If you have any further questions about wireless routers, I'll be happy to help.

    Kind regards,
    Samara

    Hi Samara,

I'm sorry my enquiry is a bit complicated, I wonder if you could find me some advice please.

I am currently using a Wanadoo/Orange anytime dial up package that I've had for 5 years. In order to do this and keep the phone line free, I rent 2 lines from BT, andpay £14.99 for the internet connection.

We live in a very rural area and had to put on a distant BT exchange (think it's either 8 or 8.5km from our house. We also have overhead cables coming in to our loft area, rather than underground)

Last year I tried to get Broadband installed, and it was a nightmare.
Wanadoo ended up calling a BT engineer out to our house, and he ascertained that even his equipment couldn't sustain a full signal, so he stated BB was not available at that time, and I was able to cancel and return to the anytime dial up.

He discovered that the cable goes from our loft into a wardrobe in the main bedroom (there's a white box in there with all the wires etc.) the wiring then goes down to a socket in our living room, back to the box, and then around all the other sockets in the house - I think there're 9 sockets altogether)
The living room socket might be the 'main' socket, or something inside the white box upstairs might be designated the main one, and that's why the 'signal' travels back up there....I'm not quite sure) - hope that makes sense to someone.

My question is, that given all of this information, and that your checker on the site suggests that my estimated line speed is only 0.5Mb anyway...what are the chances that
    a) anything has improved over the last 16 months, as regards 'rolling out' services to remote areas
    and
    b) if I got a decent wireless router

that I might be able to get broadband now.

Thanks in anticipation to anyone who can offer any sound advice.

PS I am looking at MAF mostly because of your input here :)
  • Hello Agent Zoonie,

As you’re getting the reading of a potential 512Kbps as your maximum speed, this suggests that you’re right on the distance limit of being able to get broadband. Technically, we would accept your order and do our best to provision you broadband; however we couldn’t guarantee that our results will be any different than your previous attempt. The new technology of ADSL MAX can be sensitive to internal wiring and I’m a bit worried because from your description it does sounds like the wiring in your house is pretty interesting.

My best advice would be that if you were interested in trying for broadband again to give it a go, however to approach the endeavour with a great deal of patience and a sense of humour.

I hope that is helpful and I'm sorry that I'm not able to provide a more definitive answer for you.

    Kind regards,
    Samara

  • Thanks for the reply Samara :)

Yes, it's errr 'interesting' and I do understand that no guarantee can be given, it's a try it and see situation I'm sure. I could do that on my main line I suppose, and still retain the second line + dial up, while I saw what happened.

What would be the situation with MAF if I had to cancel due to service problems in this instance - could I cancel without cost?

(to give you further info. when the BT engineer came to the house, he disturbed wiring on one of the sockets for my other line, and then I had a heck of a game to get it rectified - Wanadoo who had instructed the engineer wouldn't send him back - because the fault was not on the line we had ordered broadband on. And, BT wouldn't rectify it, because Wanadoo had sent the engineer who'd caused the fault! GRRR It took a lot of insistence from me, to get any action to put me back where I started)
I am relatively patient and have a sense of humour, but I felt like I was banging my head against a wall with that one
