    Is 5GB enough?
I think I probably do the following online per week:
    14 hours internet surfing.
    20 MP3 downloads.
30 emails sent with no attachments.
3 hours of VOIP calls a week.

Could someone give me a rough indication of how many GB this will result in per month? I'm interested in MAAF (the cheaper version) but worried about 5GB allowance. Have no idea what my current usage is....
  • Hi Ec9wrr,

We have a page devoted to explaining how much 5GB really is: http://www.madasafish.com/services/broadband/usage.asp

    From what you say:

    14 hours internet surfing.
    20 MP3 downloads.
30 emails sent with no attachments.
3 hours of VOIP calls a week.

I would think that 5GB would be more than enough. Would it be possible to ask your current ISP what your monthly usage has been for the last few months? Then you'll know the usage that you truly need.

    Kind regards,
    Samara

    Hi Samara

My MAAF was upgraded on 9th May. The email explained that it will take up to 10 days to establish the maximum speed on the line. My problem is that I have been on holiday since 12th May & only logged on again on 28th May.
Does the 10 days continue from when I reconnected? I have done a speed test & am only getting 0.48 Mbps whereas on May 9th I got 1.45Mbps.

    Thanks

  • Hi Izzitme,

Sorry it is taking me so long to reply to your post. I'm trying to confirm the information with BT currently and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

So that I can look at your specific case, could you please PM me your username?

    Thank you

    Kind regards,

I was upgraded at the end of April in the hope of getting a possible 5.5mb but saw no increase from my original 2mb on numerous speed tests. I contacted MAAF but they informed me that BT were not interested unless you were getting less than 1.6mb.
I've just tried another test now and got 5.29mb, at last!! Better late than never.

Thanks for your help (see above).
I decided to go for it. Ordered last week and will be connected on Wednesday. My understanding is that the line will then be tested to ensure stable speed... I will be unable to use my computer just over a week from Thursday though as it's going to be upgraded. Will this matter? Will the line test still go through ok? Or would I be better off delaying the start date so that line testing can be done with me using my computer?
  • Hello Ec9wrr,

I had to ask my tech support for the answer to your query, and here is what they've said:

"Depends if they are using a router or a USB powered modem as the 10 DLM starts once there is a connection of more than 15 minutes. If a router then please ask that the routers is left powered on and that it be set to be connected at all times. If they are using a USB modem it would be best to connect when they get back and the 10 days will start from then."

    I hope that is helpful.

    Kind regards,
    Samara

    Thanks Samara,
I have an ADSL Wireless router. I'm not sure how to set this as always on so think I will wait until computer is back before turning on.
    Thanks for your help though.
  • Hi Ec9wrr,

I've just confirmed with my tech team that you can leave the wireless router plugged in to the wall (preferably from the master sock) and on whilst you're away should you wish for the 10 day period to start prior to when you get back.

    Kind regards,
    Samara

are there any plans for MAAF to introduce a broadband/telecoms package for one inclusive price such as Plusnet are doing in July

I am with Plusnet at the mo but find them a touch expensive and am really considering switching to your goodselveslamer.gif

    thanks in advance
