i want to ditch my AOL BB cos i hate it with a passion, this is my 3rd year with them due to not wanting to faff about changing. Is there anyway i can change to MAAF without incurring cancellation charges by AOL?

  • Hello Loopy_lass,

I believe that the AOL cancellation policy for broadband is that there is a 12 month contractual obligation, provided that you do not make any other arrangements with them (ie. discounted price in exchange for a new 12 month contract).

If you've had broadband with them for three years, it's more than likely that you've completed your contractual period.

Also, if you are changing providers, ensure that you get a MAC from AOL to provide to your new supplier. This will assist in an easy switch.

    Kind regards,
    Samara

    Hi Samara.
i am thinking of signing up but have a few questions.

My exchange has a ready for service date of 30 june 2006 but the MAAF broadband checker says that i can already get BB (512k) and will take my order. If i sign up now and later find for various reasons i can't get BB (i live in a remote area and a long way from the exchange) will i be able to cancel contract and return equipment? I assume that i won't be charged until i can actually get the service.
Also, can i get the "cheaper" discount and referrers reward, (assuming that i can find someone to refer me)?
  • Hello Norvin,

I'm pleased to see that you're considering Madasafish. I'll do my best to answer your queries:

Yes, you can sign up now and be one of the first people in your area to get broadband when your exchange goes live. If for some reason it turns out that we cannot deliver the service to your house we will cancel the contract and accept the return of the equiptment. When you first sign up for broadband, the first month subscription cost is billed against the card that you used when you sign up. This will also be refunded to you.

Please note: that while we do take the first month subscription cost when you sign up, the billing period doesn't start until your services with Madasafish go live. This way you aren't actually paying for the time that you don't have broadband with us.

    2. Also, can i get the "cheaper" discount and referrers reward, (assuming that i can find someone to refer me)?

I'm afraid that during sign up you can only use either the cheaper discount or the referrers award. You might be able to find a referee who will paypal you £5 (so you both benefit with £15). This way you'll both come out slightly better than if you used the cheaper discount.

I hope that is helpful and please feel free to post or PM me at any time with any further queries. I'm here to help.

    Kind regards,
    Samara

Usually when I try to use the internet I get the 'Page cannot be displayed' error message or the 'Access prohibited' message and so end up using a dial up connection. I am also having problems using the phone. On the rare occasion that we have been able to use the internet, if we receive a call during that time we loose the internet connection. Our call quality has also deteriorated. There is a permanent crackling noise on the phone line which gets so bad that we are unable to hear the caller!

    Hi Samara

Its fixed!! The new microfilter that you sent has cured the problems. I am 100% impressed with the service that I have received from MAAF since contacting you. Thank you :T

Hi - my madasafish account uograde to 8 meg on the 5th of may. I realise that there is 10 days until the speed settles down, but although my modem has indicated connection speeds of 4.6 through to 5.6Mbps and above, when I do a speed test it has never got much above 2.5Mbps. Is this normal. Will I ever notice any difference in speed.

    Thanks

    Hi Samara,

I too was upgraded on the 5th May. Before signing up to the upgrade the indication was that i was going to get 6.5mb maximum speed. The maxium speed so far recorded on the speed test has been 4.2mb. But the average speed test has been around 3mb.

Is my maximum speed going to 4.2mb and only occassionally?

Well I think I have finally decided to dump BT and go for MAAF !! Mostly due to this thread actually. Which, in turn, means mostly due to Samara !!

Spookily enough I emailed MAAF with a query a week or so ago and, within an hour, I got a reply from Samara!! In fact I got 2 replies within 2 hours - FANTASTIC :)

I've generally been happy with BT's bb and we've been with them for over 5 yrs now but the MAAF prices look very competitive to me. The only problem for me is that I currently have 20gb usage allowance (Option 3 £26.99) and would drop to only 5gb with MAAF £11.99/£17.99 after 6 months (BT equiv. option 2 6gb £22.99).

So I am running NetLimiter for a while to see what I actually use - as BT can't tell me <rolls eyes>. Whereas MAAF have a usage data available from Your Account section. So far NetLimiter says 12 days and less than 1gb but I've not done a huge amount of d/l this month but it's looking good so far.
