Car Insurance for Young Drivers (2006)

If I include him as a main driver the premium is nearly £1500 plus he doesn't need to drive all year round. he only wants to drive when he's at home for the odd w/es and holidays. The car is in my name. I am the main driver and my wife is the second driver.0

If you are honestly the main driver then you could potentially add him as a temporary additional driver for each holiday period - the only "problem" will be the fact that you will need to pay an admin each time.
If the vehicle honestly sits in the garage for all the time until he gets back from uni then something like a Pay As You Go may be a better way to do it as it is based on actual mileage rather than an assumption of weekly/ daily drivingAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

The cheapest price I have had now is just under £700, rac - TPFT, enhanced courtesty car, £120 excess, etc..
Anyone have any other cheap companies?
I've tried:
Elephant
Sainsburys
Tesco
ASDA
Endseigh
Norwich
High Performance
Allan and Allan

I would say go with RAC.
I've been happy with them so far. My son's documents arrived promptly and it's a UK call centre.0 -
Try Liverpool Victoria; they always seem quite reasonable for young drivers.#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET

Does anyone know who is the cheapest for 17yos on a provisional? My daughter is 17 next Monday and we need insurance set up for then but there isn't the facility to do it on any comparison sites as she isn't 17 yet so I'm just going to have to make some phone calls. Was just hoping to be able to limit the amount of calls I have to make!0

Look forward to the replies I have a son, 17 in July, OMG I have just gotten a quote from my insurers via the phone and it is 999.00/ year that is with Advantage a co. which came out top for me on Martin's comparison site.

Unfortunately there is no quick route in getting the best price as there are so many rating criteria that whilst Company X may load the premiums less for young drivers Compay Y may give a bigger discount for living where you do than the difference for young drivers.
The questions online should be answered for the date of inception for the policy so presumably you are going to start the policy from next Monday so you should put your daughters age as 17 so can do it online. If you are going to start the policy before monday you cannot add her onto the policy until Monday (due to age) and will probably be charged an admin fee for the mid term alteration. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

OMG!
Same situation here, son 17 in 3 weeks. I was quoted £150 to add him from his 17 birthday until my normal policy renewal date at the end of June, so roughly only for a two week period effectively.
I dread to think what a year's premium will be. _pale_
What car will your son be driving Shelagh? (Hope you don't mind me asking but please feel free to not answer if you'd rather.)

Just a word of caution - remember that the policyholder (or at least the rated driver) has to be the main driver. If son/ daughter is to be the main driver but you do the old trick of putting it in your name with son/ daughter as named driver it will invalidate the cover. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
