£2613 was my cheapest on its4me
and £700 from Liverpool victoria. Tesco even wanted £1200 from me. All I want to do is insure 5 people on a small 2003 VW Lupo, 999cc. Its all expensive due to one Male 19year old student
... There has also been one theft from the car claim ... Anyone in a simiilar circumstance who found a cheap insurer?

I just got got Admiral for under £1000 on a 1.2 Fiat Grade Punto - I'm also 19.
Not bad compared to the other quotes I got - some of over £2000!0 -
I am 35, male and will be taking driving test soon. I have to travel only 3 miles to and 3 miles back from office. Have space in the landlords driveway.
Not driven a car in home country and came to UK recently so don't have much idea.
Used bus so far but can't afford missing one (the service is terrible) due to child's school pickup and everyday anxiety.
Can anybody will be so helpful to give me an idea of approx cost of insurance. I will have a old box to transport me around before I get my hands on a new one.
Thanks0 -
All these quotes are for the same car/driver, but using different post codes... Please feel sorry for me >>CLICK<<

Evening all,
If I'm posting this in the wrong place then do forgive me, similarly if I've missed something very obvious please do point it out!
I'm a first time car buyer and wanted a little advice since I really don't know where to start. I'm a medical student living in london, and I'm going to be 22 in October. I passed when I was 17, did passplus, (so I've held a full licence for 4 full years now) and since then have only been insured as an additional driver on my parents toyota corolla.
I think I'm going to need a car as of next semester, but where on earth do I start?
Firstly, do I have a no claims bonus? I havent had an accident or anything to do with insurance yet (touch wood), so does that mean I have 4 years no claims? or does tht only count for the main driver? and I have no idea how much the average annual mileage should be.. lol.
Secondly, the BIGGER issue, is that I'm looking for a car, but being a moneysaver, I don't want a car that's going to cost me a fortune to insure. I think I have around £4000 MAXIMUM to spend on BUYING a car (though as you can imagine, I don't necesserily want to be using all of that). Is there a website or a list somewhere of the cheapest cars to insure? but by the same token, I don't neccessarily want to buy a really old car, I wouldn't mind one that looks nice/fast (but isnt fast, if you see what I mean).
So what would be great if there was a website that listed lots of vehicles, in order of how cheap they were to insure.. does anything like this exist?
Thanks a lot guys, much appreciated :T0 -
no claims bonus normally only counts for the main driver. I think I have seen one provider advertising it for named drivers, but I can't recall which one. Check who your parents have had insurance with, and whether they do do bonus for named drivers.
Cars are put into groups for insurance purposes, with the cheapest to insure being group 1, and I can't recall what number it goes up to for the most expensive. Individual variations within a model can have differerent insurance groups. For example there are lots of different vw golfs going from the basic one that my flatmate has to the really sporty and hi-spec ones. It can also vary by year of registration too.
As a general rule small size of car is low insurance group, and low engine size is low insurance group.
I doubt that there is a list somewhere (there may be) due to the sheer numbers but I'm pretty sure the parkers website has insurance groups on. If you are thinking of buying a newish (less than 7 years old) car it might be worth you buying a parkers guide (from a newsagent or whereever) or similar as they are really good for giving you an idea of what you'd expect to pay for different cars and different ages.
Alternatively take a look at what cars are available for sale in your area say and then look on the parkers website or wherever to get the insurance group information for each.Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
thanks for that anniecave.
ironically the parkers website you mentioned DOES allow you to search cars by the insurance group, very nice! http://www.parkers.co.uk/insurance/
Generally speaking, what insurance group is "normal" for young drivers? This obviously depends on how much the individual is willing to spend, but I mean which insurance group would the average new driver be willing to spend on insurance (or if not which insurance group, then how much?)
thanks! :T0 -
Direct Line started doing the no claims bonus for named drivers but I think this only started last year.Regards

Kamran,
Thanks for the link to the Parker site. I found that quite informative and helpful. You've done your good deed for the day.:T0
