Orange Broadband - 50% price increase !!

HELP !!............Just received a letter from Orange stating that "......we've recently introduced some changes to our broadband service, which are designed to simplify the choice we offer our customers. We've had to update our pricing and your subscription will increase slightly. Your current package is no longer available.....you'll be moved to our Home Starter Package, and your new monthly tariff will be £18" !!!!!!!! Thats more than slight, its actually more than 50% increase, i currently pay £11.97 before call charges.

Any Advice??

Does that include your line rental?

Phone them up and request your MAC.

Have a look on Samknows and see if any operators have LLU at your exchange as they may be your cheapest option.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Thanks for the heads-up... we were contemplating going with Orange.. so won't bother now.. it's not like the price-rise is just a quid or two! It is actually a massive jump of 50.3759398% !!!

Things might be more difficult getting away from Orange if you've got an LLU package with them, rather than a Orange-branded IPStream package from BT wholesale. I have heard that Orange can be quite obstructive when you try to escape them.
  • i was getting my orange broadband for free, and even that was too expensive considering how rubbish the connection and service was

I had the same letter, announcing a shocking hike in the price - I've emailed them and told them how disgusted I am, especially as we can only receive. 2.2meg speed - nowhere near the 8megs they are offering - they replied basically saying tough luck, that's the price - so I'm just about to ring them for my MAC code, I am not staying with them now - I've been with them for over 3 years and a 50% increase in price is really not on!!

is there not a get out clause in the t&c's? some have a clause that if a price increase is detrimental to you you can cancel with 30 days of the letter reciept by giving 30 days notice in writing

i did this with 3 mobile via email

I looked at my mums broadband package with Orange and she pays £17.99 for just over 1 mg on an 8 mg line, she has been with them since freeserve days, I rang them up and asked about uping the speed and she was going to have to pay another £10 per month. Needless to say I asked for the mac code and it arrived over the weekend. Have signed her up to ADSL24 for £13.90 per month 1 month contract. She should get more than the 1mg she got with orange.hopefully 6MG to 8MG.

:mad: My lovely letter from Orange arrived on Friday - absolutely shocking. We knew that by paying broadband and phone separately we probably were paying too much £11.97 BB + £22 phone (all inclus) per month - £34/month - but with the price increase that wud be £42 per month - no way!!!! I immediately rang round a few recommended ISP's - contacted orange and have requested a MAC code be issued immediately. I live in N.Ireland and am moving to our local u.tv provider and will be paying £29 per month (all inclusive calls & B/Band) and will have the benefit of a wireless router + first three months free B/Band.:T

It doesn't look as if they are going to have too many customers left after issuing those letters. Even being a long standing customer (from freeserve days) makes no difference.
Wins since July'08::T £24 money off vouchers Unilever Products, bbq tongs & apron, Day at Spa including Dinner.

I'm glad I'm not the only one - got my letter last week saying it's gone up 25% which I thought was bad enough - can't believe some people have had a hike of 50% +! Off to get my MAC code now... I see BT are doing 3 months half price, might try them.
