I got the letter too saying that my broadband package has gone up by £5 a month. I've been with orange for 5 years so really disappointed they have upped their prices. whats the phone number to cancel them?

Also ive never cancelled a broadband package before so was wondering what do i have to do - do i need to find another provider first? Also i have a pc and a laptop my orange broadband is set up on my pc and i use wireless on my laptop but my pc is broken at the moment so will i have to fix that before i can get a new provider?

It doesn't matter if your PC is broken. Go to http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php to find out what alternatives may be available to you.
  • I received the same letter regarding the price increase. My new monthly tariff would be £19.99 (I only receive 1/2 meg speed at the best). This is 1 increase too many. I have been with the company since the days of freeserve. I rang them for my MAC code and they said they would email it to me. I have not received it yet so I rang them again and was told it takes 3 to 5 days?? Does anyone know if I can keep my email address if I switch to another broadband provider? I am considering the Post Office package at £24.99 including inclusive evening and weekend calls and line rental. Can anyone recommend it?

Whatever you do, don't CANCEL. You find another ISP then ask Orange for a MAC. Once you have that code you ring your new ISP and give them the code and they do the rest. Then stop the Direct Debit if you have one set up.

Maybe Orange don't want the customers...

If you call them up and say you want to cancel your service chances are that they will offer you a better deal since since you have been a customer for such a long time, its worth a shot to try that if you are just unhappy with the price but like the service.

Looks like I am joining the ranks of the many in leaving Orange but I have a few questions.

    First some background info:

I joined Orange Broadband in Sept 07 with a 2meg / 2gig usage package, Now either way, a 12 month or 18 month contract would have expired by now, so I'm not in a contract.

I received the changeover letter on 4th June (dated 2nd June) saying they'll move me over to the new package.

Unhappy with the price increase, I contacted Orange and got a MAC code from them and today set up a new account with plus net. All fine and dandy BUT I need (and have) given orange 30 days notice of my intention to change ISP, BUT by only by requesting the MAC.

Now this 30 days notice will effectively fall into the "New Package" that they want me to transfer to. And this is really the root of my query:

In orange's T+C, they say they will request any money that is owed to them after I leave them. That's fair enough. BUT:

    1) Does the letter saying that they (Orange) are moving my package over mean that I am effectively starting a new contract with them?
    2) If so, if it's 12 or 18 months, does that mean I'll end up owing them for the 12/ 18 months as they'd have viewed me as exiting this new contract early, simply because my 30 days notice runs into when the contract would start?
    3) I guess the main question after this is: where do I stand legally if they do this?

Not being funny, but I have little faith in Orange, and I can see a big bill coming my way....

Why? They always seem to do the legal minimum, and it seems to be deliberate to catch people out and make things in their favour.

I started hating them last year when they took down my website and tried to force me to use their "web builder" rather than FTP.

This price hike really was the final straw...

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this and reply

My mother has just received the same letter. Her package is going up from £14.67 to £19.99, an increase of over 30%. She is over 60 so is not happy with talking to customer services. I have tried to speak to them but I have to be authorised on the account. To do this I have to be in the same room!

She gets ½ meg and was told that it is because she is on a non-Orange line and BT have increased the charge by £8.00 per month. The letter says that she will benefit from an improved service!

Needless to say, I will now have to drive 35 miles to her house to cancel her account. Is Orange trying to committ suicide?

I've been with Orange since they took over Wanadoo. I've just had the letter dated 4 June to say my subscription is going from £14.67 to £19.99 a month. I phoned last night and asked for the MAC code which they have said will take up to 5 working days. My Orange speed is up to 8MB but is actually 2.2MB. I have looked at O2 as I am a PAYG customer, but am outside their area so would have to pay £17 instead of the £7 odd. I also looked at PlusNet and it would be £5.99 a month for 3 months then £11.99 a month thereafter. It is still miles better than Orange, but has anyone any better ideas? Please??
