I got the letter this morning. Mine is going up to £32.30.

I'm mulling over my options at the moment. I'm in a very rural area.. we don't even get Channel 5 here!

I heard BT are charging the ISPs £8 per customer, and the ISPs are passing this on to us (how kind of them!) I'm not sure how accurate this information is though.

I'm currently out of contract with Orange, so I won't be penalised for moving, but my concern is that other ISPs will follow suit and do this to me a few months into a contract with them.

So I'm undecided about whether to leave or not. The knee-jerk reaction was to say "I'm leaving. I wan't my MAC code"... but I'm not leaving to make a point, so if I'm not going to actually get the same options for a better price elsewhere, then I may as well suck it up and stay.

Urgh! I'm so mad about this right now!
  • I got a letter yesterday increasing my Home Max by 60% to £32.30. I called Orange yesterday to ask why and they said I was not in an Orange area, I then called an hour later to see how esy it was to leave Orange, they said no problem. I researched what others had written in this forum and was pleased to read about Samknows site and checking the LLU. Bermondsey IS listed as an Orange area.
So today I called Orange and checked again saying I had been on this website. At first the girl said it was probably out of date, I kept asking to speak to someone more senior. The outcome was that they had made a mistake and was not increasing my bill now Result!!

    Good for you! :)

I wish mine was an error, but unfortunately, my exchange is not listed with any providers. :(
  • I also recieved the same letter and 'm tied into an 18 month contract. I was previously with BT for phone and an broadband provide costing £35 a month with all calls included. Orange should have been £20 a month but the internet phone line was so bad that we never used it and as it displayed INTERNATIONAL on caller ID no one would ever answer it so the result was an average monthly bill of £65! Thanks Orange. I wasn't impressed when I received the letter so I phoned them as I'm still in contract. I was told that as Orange had changed my terms I could leave and thats why they had given me 30 days to make up my mind.

The letter does not mention that at all, it just states that after 30 days the price up! I am now looking for an alternative.

http://www.broadbandgenie.co.uk/ has a lot of customer reviews on it. It might be worth a read before you choose where you go next. :)

Post Office gets mixed reviews- I'm a bit worried about the speed and wireless issues people have had. But the free mobile calls at weekend and 10 'loved ones' number discounts are a bonus!

I'm also looking at SKY now as they offer Broadband Connect for £17 and I think linerentla (£10) is free for 12months. Free evening and weekend calls can be included or £5 for unlimited. Trouble is TV etc has to be added.

My Average Orange bill is £32-33 already because of mobile calls mainly, with the new increse this will be £40 average so for £60+ I could get sky TV, High Definition, Sky Sports1, Broadband and Phone.

just recieved my letter too........Post office looks a good alternative at the moment.

    however, regarding that ''30 days''??

If the extract from the Orange terms & conds is anything to go by, then we dont actually have 30 days to respond!

In such cases your notice must be given no later than seven days prior to the date upon which the change would have taken effect.

so, which 'search engine' offers the best deals for getting Post Office broadband??
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

  • Hi
I received my letter last week and, like just about everyone else here, I was suitably stunned.
    But ...
I have the Broadband Max package giving me 8mb uncapped, second phone line which gives free calls to Orange mobiles (all our family is on Orange), free calls to 30 countries (relatives live in one and others regularly visit another) as well as free calls 24/7 to UK landlines. And it includes line rental.
Changing to this package from BT landline and separate ISP, taking into account all the above freebies, saved me in the region of 60% of our average total bill, so I still don't see that I can beat the package at the new price.
Obviously I am pretty unhappy about the increase but, contrary to so many posts, I get in excess of 6mb download consistently and have done from the day I signed up. I have never had a dropped connection nor an interruption.
Before anyone asks, I do not work for Orange, all I can do is tell you all my experience.
If anyone knows of a better package giving similar benefits to the above I really would like to know.
