  • I'm afraid that seems to be the case, Newuser78. I had a very decent deal on my last O2 Retentions offering nearly 18 months ago but looking back over the MSE O2 retentions thread it seems that those deals are now a thing of the past.

    I was expecting to pay around £30pcm for the Samsung G S or the HTC D for 400 mins and 500mb internet but that doesn't seem at all possible now. I've experienced good customer service from them for the majority of the time (things have gone wrong but they have gone all out to sort them properly and their call centres are generally professional IMHO) so to would be a shame to leave. Given that I have experienced decent service and rarely have network outage for internet I am prepared to pay £5 pcm more per month than any other deal I can get with Orange to stay, but otherwise I'll be off. I find it surprising that they do not seem to offer anything better than they do for new customers when all other providers seem to - O2 are not even coming close to the others and they always used to be reasonably competitive.

    Maybe take a read of this before spouting nonsense.
    It shows 3g coverage which is pretty much a must for smartphones but 2g coverage shows a similar pattern.
    You will see O2 is right at the bottomof the pile

    The reason 02 dont offer retention deals is because their network is virtually at capacity, they cant handle the data use of current customere let alone future customers.

    If you are unable to read here a pretty picture showing how bad o2's coverage really is

So, and I am not looking for an argument, if O2 is a full capacity, why is Tesco Mobile offering a Sim only contract, in my local Tesco Extra, of 500 mins, unltd text and unltd data for £10 a month? I thought Tesco shares the same netqork. Will that mean that Tesco may not be able to fulfill its end of the contract?

    Some great info on these forums...but I'm after some advice about the timing of negotitating an upgrade which I can't find elsewhere.

    My contract is due to expire with Vodafone at the beginning of December. However, I have the option to upgrade now. They've offered me a decent deal (HTC Desire for free, 300 mins, unlimited text and data, £25/m if 24 months, £30/m if 18 months) which I can't beat if I switch.

    However, I'm wondering if it would be better to wait. Do mobile contracts get cheaper towards Christmas? Will they offer me an even better deal if I negotitate closer to the end of my contact?

    I'm going to Tesco.

    I, like many others, have been on the £20 12mth Simplicity deal while using an iPhone (formally PAYG). o2 could offer nothing close to Tesco. Best I got was £15 with 300mins, unlimited text, data and WIFI. They tried to convince me to stay based on my average minute usage and the WIFI aspect. It didn't work. Despite it meaning I'll have to pay £5 more on my broadband I prefer having minutes in hand and the flexibility of the 1 month rolling contract with Tesco for a tenner.

    If it is a monthly 'Rolling Contract', does that mean Tesco can withdraw the Contract or increase the charge at any time by giving one month notice ?

    It means at the worst congestions times when O2 customers are fully using a call (which will probably not happen tht often) Tesco customers may be unable to make a call.

    Then, the aforementioned deal, is not as good as it looks.

    That I can't tell you, however I'll do my best to find out when I give them a buzz in moments. . .

    Edit: I was told the price is unlikely to change, minutes and data could do, unlikely to be anytime soon and they would give notice. You have to give them 30 days. No hardship for me but it might be a dealbreaker for others.

    I used to pay £30 a month with Orange to get 200mins and 100 texts (I got a PS3 though!) but on renewal I haggled and got Unlimited Texts, 400minutes and a new Sony Ericsson W995 (8.1mpeg camera) for £10 a month. SCORE!!

    Hi I'm wanting to reduce my Orange contract (currently £35 pm) to about £20. I also want to dump my horrible Samsung i1200 phone and get an HTC Desire.

    Any suggestions before I start the process of haggle and Mexican Stand-offs?
