Unfortunately, network coverage from orange, T-mobile and 3 is nowhere near as good as O2, and O2 knows that. Hence the no budging.

    Very very funny :rotfl:

Maybe take a read of this before spouting nonsense.
It shows 3g coverage which is pretty much a must for smartphones but 2g coverage shows a similar pattern.
You will see O2 is right at the bottomof the pile

The reason 02 dont offer retention deals is because their network is virtually at capacity, they cant handle the data use of current customere let alone future customers.

If you are unable to read here a pretty picture showing how bad o2's coverage really is

  • Hey All....
my 18 month contract with Virgin is all set to end next month, and I'd been advised to contact them a month prior and see what incentives I could get to entice me to stay with them.
I thought the ball would be in my court...but Virgin weren't interested in keeping me as a customer.
Basically, I want a new Blackberry - but to get a BB deal with half as much call time as I am currently paying for will cost me £3.50 a month more. I tried to barter down, explaining that as I currently only pay £8.50 a month, other than the phone of my choice what would they be prepared to offer.
...and they said they would do the BB deal for £11 (cheek! Virgin Media customers get it for £10 apparently - but NOT Virgin Mobile customers!!!)
OK, I know that's cheap - but when i questioned why i wasnt getting a better deal as I have been a loyal customer, the girl on the phone told me that it was all because I wanted a Blackberry....and they werent going to go cheaper as the phone is worth £400.
But why stiff the consumer? If they resent doing it for a cheap deal, why give the phone away free?
So....I cancelled my contract, ensuring that I've left the door open should I change my mind.
  • Just called O2 after having been a loyal customer for 2 years. The best they could offer me would be around £15-20 more expensive per month than what I've got now! Ridiculous. I will leaving and taking my custom elsewhere.
  • 2 years is a typical contract length these days.. hardly puts you into 'loyal' territory.
  • I have been an O2 customer for 7 years now and my contract was due to expire today. I phoned up a month ago and 2 weeks ago and on both occasion was told that I had to wait until the 24th September to find out what I was entitled to as an existing customer as they would have a "pot of money" that they could spend on incentive to retain my custom.
I phoned up today to discover that as a loyal customer I was only entitled to the available tariffs and deals which a brand new customer would be entitled to and nothing else. Not only that as my existing 18 month contract was a special deal with a £15 discount as of today it is going to increase back up to £35 a month so even if I choose to leave O2 today I have to pay the higher rate for my last month. I explained what I had been told by previous members of staff to be told they were sorry but nothing could be done and that If I knew I was eligible a month a go I should of called up (exactly what I did do - she was struggling to understand this point). So not only do I receive nothing for 7 years of loyalty I get an increased bill for my last month if I decide to leave - fantastic! But as O2 informed me they are now spending their money on other incentives such as priority tickets etc for gigs - a great way to treat your customers!
  • I just did the Martin approach with Orange, they have been charging me £20 a month for 300 mins, 100 texts, no internet.

I spoke nicely to 2 people explaining my situation, deciding with them what phone I wanted and explaining that I had found a deal with TMobile that offered 300 mins, 300 texts and 1000MB data for £15 per month and that if I didn't get a similar deal I would have to leave (they were only going down to 300 mins and 80MB for £20). I was then put through to the retentions team who immediately offered me 350 mins, 200 texts and unlimited internet for £15 on an 18 month contract plus the phone I wanted. So I am well pleased!
  • I suspect the extremely high cost of some of the new phones is crippling firms ability to offer loyalty tariff reductions.
  • I have to echo what others are saying about O2. I have been their customer since BTCellnet and in the past have always got great deals with them over the phone (after being put through the retention dept).

This time, no such luck. £40/month, 24 month, free Samsung Galaxy S or HTC Desire but 500Mb data whilst many other networks do similar deals for £25-£35 with more mins and data.

Despite speaking to different operators, they are not budging and one of them said that O2 had withdrawn special discounts portfolio about 8 months ago.

So this means I guess they don't care about keeping customers. As such as I have requested for a PAC code.

Shame I know but their loss I guess.
