Have just had some success! I didn't receive any notification of 3LH ending so called them today to cancel (11 months into an 18 month contract). Took 3 departments 22 minutes in total and I have a text with my PAC! They didn't really even bother with a hard sell, a half-hearted attempt.

Will have to try and work out where to go now - have a horrible feeling 3 are still the best for me (light user, uses internet more than the phone!)
Vodafone got that 100 min 500 text for £10 with a half decent choice of phones (24 month contract though). Go through Quidco for £90 cashback and add on internet for £5 per month, works out to £11.25 per month total.

I managed to get my wife's account cancelled using TLH as a reason. Never spoke to them once - refused, said would only communicate in writing/email.

Only downside is that original request was made 27 May 2009, PAC not generated until 15 June 2009 - not sure if can be bothered to fight it though as got her out of previous 3 contract on per minute billing last year so feel a tiny bit guilty.

I got over my guilt and emailed 3 about it. they replied and credited her account with £12.50 but left the original account closure/PAC end date.

What a fantastic company with incredibly helpful customer service team! Might change the wife's mind and get her to stay...

Just be glad you managed to avoid speaking to them on the phone.

if you do it tomorrow you are within your time frame. Don't listen to them when they tell you the time has passed.

As I have been notified of the withdrawal of 3 Like Home, I wish to give my 30 Days notice to cancel my contract with yourselves as this variation of the terms of the contract is to my detriment, and as such I am able to cancel my contract without a cancellation fee being charged as stated in section 10.1 (d) of your terms and conditions,

10.1 You may end this agreement in the following ways:
    d. Within one month of a detrimental variation to your agreement. You can end the agreement within one month of us telling you about a variation to your agreement (which includes your Price Plan) which is likely to be of detriment to you. You must give written notice to 3 Customer Services within that month and your agreement will finish at the end of that month once we receive your notice. (A Cancellation Fee will not be charged.)

And confirmed in the link I received in the text message informing me of the withdrawal

Finally because of the 3 Like Home change, it's only fair that we point out your right to end your contract with us, without paying an early cancellation fee. However, we very much hope it won't come to that because we still believe we offer great value rates and great coverage.

Further to this I would like all further correspondence regarding this cancellation to be made in writing or by email only.

As I wish to cancel my contract with yourself I therefore request my PAC at this time to enable me to port my number

I look forward to hearing from you

Do you think this will do the job?

  • Hi
I use 3 mobile broadband, and I do use it abroad and was planning to later this year using "three at home".
I just phoned up to cancel but was told contract has 6 months to run.
Apparently they notificed me mid May of the change and said "I should have cancelled by June 19th as now its too late - you will be charged for rest of the contract"

I absolutely do not recall any formal notice from 3. They say they texted me - but no record. I would be "sure" I didn't get advanced notification but not 100% as it may have been bulk deleted.

After 20 mins I was bascially told "sod off - tough luck - you are too late". And no amount of discussion changed anything at all. "The computer said we told you so tough luck" type attitude.

Am I stuffed or any advice please?

Can i get out of the contract?
It's a great day for singing a song / It's a great day for moving along / It's a great day for morning to night / It's a great day for everybody's plight.

I cancelled my Mix and Match500 contract on 16th June and received my PAC within an hour. Having read on here that I'd receive a call from a special department at Three with a 'one off never to be repeated offer' I awaited the call with anticipation.
Then last week I started to notice a lot of missed calls but no voicemail (at least once a day, I'm unable to answer during the daytime) from what looked like a Three number. I did manage to answer on Friday afternoon but wasn't able to speak for long as I wanted to be at home with pen and paper etc, so asked if they would call back later, they agreed and didn't seem a problem... may have been a mistake as I'm still waiting, no call back... anybody know what their 'drill' is, do they keep calling or was that my one and only chance to speak to the 'special department' any advice appreciated, this place is a mine of information

Out of interest would anyone know what I may be offered as an incentive to stay with Three, already been offered the £10 one off payment and then the £5 per month for life of contract discount before getting my PAC. I was paying £27 for M&M500 with an N95 8GB, around 11months left on contract.

Yep you're pretty much screwed. You requested, and was given, a PAC and you failed to use it. You agreed to stay on the basis of having £10 per month less to pay. The actual mobile you received is irrelevant to 3 as they'll be happy that you stayed. Perhaps you should have done a little bit of research first on the actual make and model you were interested in rather than taking the chance (twice) that you may receive the phone that was more beneficial to you.
