i got my final bill today actually - my normal monthly bill is £27 quid and my final bill from 3 is only £10.86 !

I've had my final bill through no problem. If you really wanted to you could call them back and check there's no ETF on the account, thats what I did.

Thanks for the advice - I just gave them a quick call and the nice man at the other end confirmed that there were no early termination fees to be paid on any of my contracts due to the removal of '3 like home'.

I consider myself very lucky - all 3 were 18 month contracts, one with 12 months left, one with 16 months left and the last with 18 months left!

Haha, and 3 reasonably nice phones to boot as well. :D Excellent...
  • Thanks to all the information given from here, I too was able to cancel! Though, i never thought that 3's customer service was bad .. I can't trust them anymore at all after the treatment I have received upon my request to cancel.

It took me 4 phone calls and a total of probably 4 hours to actually have my contract terminated. I was accused of lying, laughed at, told for 90 mins from a seemingly broken disc player that they cannot end my agreement, that I need to go to a 3 store to have them validate that the text is actually on my phone, was lied to that 3Stores can cancel for me too etc.

Oh and before I forget, everytime i requested a manager they were in a meeting and once I was told a manager would call back in 10 mins, but after 30 mins waiting no one called so i called back. Was told the manager just got in the shift and will call back in 30 mins???? And eventually after asking for a manager 3 times, someone called me back who claimed to be a manager but didnt really know how to reply to my arguments. When I asked to speak to another manager, they were suddenly in a meeting again. Because apparently i was asking for the 'manager of the manager'.

Worst experience ever, I was originally gonna stay on 3 if they had given me a good deal .. but now i think even if they offered e complete free line rental i'd still leave.

You are not wrong mate - we only went for lower end handsets but a check check on Mazuma shows I'll be £140 better off next month! That will pay for a couple of cheap PAYG handsets and enough credit to cover the next 3 or 4 months :)

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread and given me the resolve carry it through.

3 are clueless, I cancelled mine quite a few weeks ago, have now got a free unlocked Nokia N96 after just 4 months of my contract. Yesterday I get a call on the number I had with them that has now gone over to o2 asking that as I was a 'valued' customer would I like to sign up for a new contract, any phone I wanted and for about £10/month less than I was paying before!
  • Hi guys I was wondering if anyone could help me. I phoned up today tryign to cancel my contract. They are saying I cannot cancel my contract because on the 12th of June they sent me a text saying this "opportunity" ends on the 17th of June. I'm pretty sure I never recieved a text. Now on another forum I seen someone else gettin the same reason, so I think that is what they are telling people from now.

I asked to speak to a manager and got told they were in a meeting, told them I was moving to Ireland for a year after finishin Uni in April. They wouldnt budge! Finally I asked for his name and the head office address so I could send a lawyers letter to see if that would change his mind, but he stuck to his guns!

What do you guys think? Surely they cant slap something on your contract you dont agree with without your permission!

This is a complete lie. It is not an "opportunity". 3 Like Home is an integral part of the service they provide to pay monthly customers. It is not something you register for either, it is just there to be used if you go abroad.

The problem you may have though is that you only have 30 days from the date of the text message to cancel so you might possibly have missed the boat.

What I'd personally do is ring back with the same story - you're moving to ireland for a year and you want to cancel your contract.

If they tell you that you've missed the boat, I think all you can really do is try to 'style it out' as they say - tell the operator that the text message currently sitting on your phone was sent to you exactly three and a half weeks ago, so as far as you're concerned you are well within your rights.

you have to be firm with them without losing it. they will try every dirty trick in the book to deny your request.

one thing I would personally try is when you ring them back, tell them that the service you received on your last call was disgraceful because you felt that the operator you spoke to tried to bully you out of your decision and that you feel that it is no way for a company to operate.

another trick they'll try is, when you tell them you're moving to ireland, they'll start going on about call charges and how much it will cost if you go to other networks e.t.c..

You've got to be prepared to answer a lot of their guff with "i'm sorry, but i'm really not willing to discuss that - this text message tells me that i am entitled to cancel my contract and that is what i want to do".

Don't ask to speak to managers or other people because that is a tailor made reason for them to fob you off - you must perservere with the operator, no matter how infuriating it will be.

But all that aside, as i've said, you're going to be pushing your luck because I think the "3 Like Home" boat has well and truly sailed ...
  • Thanks alot for your reply, really appreciate it. I think I am just still within the 30 days hence why I am getting fobbed off with another reason. I'll try again tommorow.

    Good luck :)

I guess it's probably safe to admit now, since my 3 account has been closed and i've paid the final bill that I never actually got the text message and I cancelled 3 months early because of 3LH.

So if I can do it, you certainly can !
