I have been transferred to Cancellations... Current wait time is 55 minutes, for them to answer... I have a great coverage so the call has not dropped.... YET....

Other posters have said the cancellation department close at 8pm so you could be on hold until tomorrow morning.

LOL.. Well maybe... They transfered me at around 19:50...

I am still getting "All our advisors are currently busy, we will answer your call as soon as possible"....

Over 1 hour now.... Glad they are paying for the call.
  • I would give up if I were you. Same thing happened to me. I phoned at 7.50pm and held for one hour 42 minutes before I was cut off. Phoned back and was told the department closes at 8pm. I would try again first thing if I were you. They open at 8am.

I'm still confused as to whether I have to send my phone back or not.
    Who owns the handset?
They have said if I don't send my phone back, they will send me a bill for £400.
Is this another fib on 3s part or do they still own the handset. All I can find in the Terms and Conditions is that they own the SIM.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Being a fine print anorak after being stung by dodgy contracts in the past; going through the fine print of the Ts and Cs and Three's "Price Plan" (that the Ts and Cs sometime refer to), I don't see (at least in our version, circa March '09) anything that says anything that resembles "The handset remains the property of Three" or "A charge is applicable for the handset if the contract is terminated early".

People may be confusing this with the SIM which is indeed the property of the Network. More than happy to send that back! :)

The whole premise of "Free" phones (to turn the whole marketing concept around) is that you get the handset for £0 if you sign up to one of their more expensive contracts (with the assumption that they would recoup the cost of the phone over the contract). If this contract is voided, then it's only relating to the service. It's not a rental agreement for the handset.

So they wouldn't have an argument to demand the handset back. Stand your ground.

BTW, thanks for all who posted here; using the tips we've successfully received our PAC codes. Although we haven't turned roaming on or used Like Home before, we do travel often to Australia and Hong Kong. With the argument of before we would pay £0, now we will pay £1.40/min. Therefore a "likely a detriment" under 10.1d!

    Persistence and knowledge pays!

    success!

felt it worth signing up to the forum (hi all!!) to mention my verbal joust with the frankly horrid 3 "Customer Options Team" last night... was on the phone over an hour then hung up, hoping to get through to someone else. After 30 mins received my PAC code regardless :T

I received the text initially on Tuesday night, 3 Like Home was definitely a unique selling point in the face of the iPhone, Google G1, and other whizzy phones on other networks. Also have a work phone I'm using more and more so made sense to get out of this if i could. I am/was 3 months into this 18month contract term (/sentence? ), but overall have been a customer for 3+ years. I used 3LikeHome once in Ireland in March.

I would mirror other people's advice, and be firm and clear with the call centre people that you know your rights, the guy I spoke to was very accusatory and questioned my motivations for most of the call; He also said it was not a right for me to cancel without fee, but a "random text that was sent out as a courtesy". He said repeatedly that under my circumstances (long contract left) it is OK for him to probe and investigate my motivations, and that me paying a termination fee is a possibility. I repeated word for word the message, including the "without fee" bit, but it went on deaf ears.

I thought (before I received PAC code) that I would just say I've seen the message, I'm going to Australia (I am, but not until next Easter), and that my girlfriend has seen a better offer and I need the PAC code. When the guy got a whiff of me mentioning another specific network he used this as a tactic saying I would not be better off on that tariff (at length, and in detail...).

With so-called customer service like that, I'm glad to be shot of them. I just hope I don't get charged this early termination fee.

I asked them how to go about unlocking my phone and was told that for £15 they would do it???? Is this the PAC? that others have been given??? while im happy to have my contract cancelled - Im not going to pay to have the phone unlocked and was just going to sell it...The guy i spoke to also never said anything to me about the sim card - will just put it someplace until they ask me for it i guess..

The PAC code is what you get (at the end of a contract) that you can use to port your phone number over to another network. You shouldn't need to pay for that.

The £15 is for the unlock code which allows you to use your phone (which is currently locked down to Three) on other networks. This is typically OK if you want to use another SIM in that phone, and especially if you have a fairly new one!

    Hi all,

Just on unlock codes - those here who reqested unlock codes... What was the process once you've requested one, and how long does it take to get it unlocked?

    Thanks...

Another successful cancellation here, albeit quite strange.

I received the text informing me that 3 like home was cancelling but having not used the phone abroad in the past did not have the spiel saying I could cancel, but rang anyway. I went straight through to cancellations saying I had received the text and would like to cancel as it was going to be detrimental should I go abroad this summer. The 'Advisor' would not shift and my request to speak to a manager was met with a 'I will get him to call you back', after about 40 minutes on hold I gave up and said I would ring back today.

So I rang back today and went to the general query section on the menu, ask them if they could explain how losing 3 like home would affect me as I would be going to Italy in July. Once they said I would be charged I said that would be detrimental to me and under terms and conditions I could cancel penalty free to which she agreed and put me through to cancellations.

So after explaining everything to cancellations again he went through my records only to find that the advisor from last night had put through the cancellation even though he told me he could not without applying the charge. After offering me £10 or a new upgraded deal (my contract is due to expire in September) I finally got confirmation of my contract being cancelled and reverting to PAYG (I want the N97 as my next phone so went for PAYG rather than PAC in case it is not out in the next 30 days).

    Happy days
