Just off the phone to 3, got put thru to customer options, and they were having none of it. The bloke said they they would credit any minutes used when I am in a 3LH country up till sept - when my contract ends
asked to speak to a manager - waiting for a call back
They probably have done the sums and figured it will be cheaper for them this way....0 -
oh my god, what a total ordeal. after 40 minutes i finally got the opportunity to cancel my contract. I got interrogated by customer services about my previous trip abroad and told i wasn't eligible to leave. Following lots of very helpful advice from this forum, I stuck to my guns and was firm with them until they finally confirmed the date of my contract ending.
I am actually really angry that i had to argue with the operator - who stuck my on hold for five minutes at a time for no reason - the customer service from three is absolutely hellish. Before making that call i thought i would happily take up a deal if they offered me one, but i am that annoyed that i will avoid the company for life.
Thanks forum for your help - good luck to any future callers - three sucks!0 -
Phoned just before midday today, got through straight away to cancellations and got my contract that still has 12 months left to run cancelled within 5 minutes, was polite but firm, declined £10 credit twice (£40 x 12 months or £10 credit.....took all of 1 second to do the math). Have never used the service but stated that it was irrelevant about past usage. PAC code received within 2 minutes of hanging up. Nice shiny almost new N96 is now mine to do whatever I want with.
Moral of the story, ring up just before the operator is due to go on lunch and they will cave in almost straight away!0 -
I've received my PAC today. I was on the phone for 49 minutes in total. I was told numerous times that I would face an ETF, and that I was not eligable to cancel since I had never used the service. I said that it was irrelevent, and that the ETF could not be charged. They eventually permitted me to cancel without any fee. I had to speak to a supervisor, who spouted the same crap. I think it should be illegal for them to lie like this. Those who are less informed will think they have to pay an ETF.0

Perhaps we can get the watchdog to look at Three's behaviour. I believe Three is in fact cheating the customer by imposing ETF - and therefore all ETF should be reserved for anyone who cancel after they annouced the withdrawal of "3likehome', and they should be FINED for their irresponsible behaviour.0

Interesting thread,
i was looking to see what 3 were putting in place.
how can they handle things so badly 3 like home essentially saved us the bother of taking an unlocked phone abroad and buying a local sim card. i'm sort of lucky and sort of not I have a 3 skype phone and a 3 modem with 3 uk and a 3.ie modem all pay as you go now realsitically i need these all unlocking so i can use them with local sim cards. what a pain in the...
I wouldnt get a 3 contract i heard so many bad things about them.
I just can't see what they are gaining they peer with their sister networks anyway. If you want cheap international calls just find a voip provider, and do it via the net.0 -
After 3 sent me a bag to post my handset back, I rang them back and spoke to customer services for quite a while. They told me because I had cancelled my contract, I would have to send the phone back and if I didn't I would be billed for it. I explained that I was exempt from charges as they had changed the T&Cs but she was adamant that I would be charged. It seemed like such a losing battle and not wishing to be billed I thought I should just cut my losses and send the phone back and just be happy that I was out of the contract. After about 30 minutes of repeating myself and explaining that I couldn't find anything in the T&C that said I had to return my handset I asked for help in finding the information. Customer services said they would ring me back. Two hours later, I got a call. I was told I could keep my handset. I was so happy I forgot to ask for it to be unlocked. I really didn't like the idea of ringing back and going through it all again with someone else but after a hearty breakfast I rang and got it unlocked in about 5 minutes for £15.
So just stick to your guns.
Good luck and thank you to everyone in this forum for giving such support. It really helps to know that others are going through the same and getting results.0 -
cant decide if i need all the agro of finding a new mobile deal aswell as the massive trauma of the call centre
although it does seem to be getting easier to cancel !

Three are cheating the customer? Hang on, a company is losing money with people cancelling their contracts through a glitch imposed on the company by the EU.
All that is going to happen is Three will up their prices gradually for new customers.
Anyone who cancels is gaining a free phone and not having to pay the line rental to Three any more.
On another note - Vodafone are abolishing their roaming charges for 3 months. That seems suspicious - are vodafone impacted in the same way as Three but doing a clever thing for 3 months but could change the terms for new contracts in meantime whilst letting existing contracts expire?0 -
Has anyone unlocked their phone before the contract is cancelled or before they have used their PAC code?
Edit: They now say that don't have unlock code for my phone (E71) so will be 15 working days to get it. Which means they are holding me hostage for another 3 weeks! I can't go and get another contract until then because the phone will be useless and I don't want to pay 3 weeks of 2 contracts.0
