I can also report success.
Glad to see the back of them really. I had an account with 3 Mobile when they started up a few years back and they were truly awful. I returned my phone and cancelled within 30 days but customer services did not cancel my account despite repeated calls to thier indian call centre. Anyways, when I resigned up with them last year despite my better judgement, I started getting nasty letters from a debt collection agency for charges relating to my old account which I did not owe. Its been a right pain to try and sort this out, so I'm quite relieved to be free of 3 !
never ever again...0 -

At last...
After having WW1 with one of the advisors, being disconnected about 5 times due to poor reception (even though I had full bars), being hung up on once, passed from department to department, it's finally been done!
Much appreciated folks.0 -
I have just been on to Three for 44 minutes. They have agreed to send me my PAC code but have said that they want the phone back. They are sending a pre-paid bag out to me. I was just wondering if they are within their rights to demand the phone back?
I upgraded in March but my contract was due to end/renew on May the 4th.
They didn't ask for the handset back from me. I originally got my phone through "The Link" with a free Wii and Wii Fit. It might be different if you got it direct from three though?0 -
I got the impression that they were being arsey on purpose. I can completely understand that they might want the handset back, but I was wondering if they can charge me for it if I don't send it back.
I thought you get your handset free and then the cost of that is incorporated into your monthly tariff. So if you cancel they can cover their costs etc by making you pay the remainder of your contract. With Three changing the T&Cs and giving you the option to end the contract early without penalty, I wasn't sure if they had the right to ask for the phone back or whether the phone is actually mine.0 -

Ring back tomorrow. They wouldn't give me the code on the same day, but i just rang up the next day, confirmed my account was ending within 30 days and paid just under £15 for the code. Very helpful!
Incidentally just received the text about the removal of 3 like home lol0 -
With regards to the PAC code I would suggest that you ask them to give it to you while you are on the phone with them and then it doens't matter how long the text takes to come through.0

Success!
I have my PAC code. I just phoned and got the contract cancelled early. Very early! I only signed up at the end of March. I phoned a while ago when this thread was first started but didn't get anywhere and eventually accepted the £20 they were offering. I phoned back just now and after repeating that it was a detrimental change to the contract, and being put on hold a few times they gave in pretty easily. No more than half an hour on the phone. I chose 3 and took out the contract because I'm going to Italy for three months this summer. I went to Austria a few weeks ago too. I'll now go to Vodafone and pick up a SIM only deal where I'll be able to use my roaming minutes & texts in Italy as I would have been able to on Three, for the three months that I'll be there. Then I'll see what operators are offering in September and go from there. Makes no sense to be paying £20 a month if I can't use my minutes while I'm abroad all that time. I'd have accepted a £10 a month discount from Three as others have had, but wasn't offered, so I'm happy to leave and save myself money on Vodafone instead.
If you want to leave because of 3 like home disappearing, just keep repeating why it is detrimental for you to, and that as it is a detrimental change to the contract you are allowed to leave them without a termination fee under section 10.1d of the contract.
I think Three have completely shot themselves in the foot by cancelling 3 like home. I was completely happy with them otherwise - the coverage was fine, the price was good, the phone was great. They'd have kept me for years if they kept 3 like home going. It looks like from reading this thread that a lot of people are now leaving because of them withdrawing 3 like home. Since you're roaming on other 3 networks of the same company I can't imagine how it could have been costing much to have the service, so dropping it seems nuts to me. They're just helping out Vodafone this summer!
Anyway, another success story to add to the pile. My thanks to drbob for starting the thread, and to its contributors

Looks like they're really starting to give in now en masse lol.0

I wonder if they will survive this or go under? Surely they have lost 1/2 their customers by now.0

SUCCESS AS WELL! PAC AND UNLOCK CODE IN 45 MINS!
Ok - here's my situation and how I did it:
Got a text from Three?
Yes - the one offering the get-out clause. Got it yesterday (19/05/09 3pm)
Contract start date?
February - but I was an existing customer
User of Three Like Home?
Briefly last summer in Italy and over Christmas in Ireland, but not in current contract term. I do travel a fair bit though and it's likely I'll be in Italy again this summer.
How did I do it?
I got straight to it and played dumb about the cancellation - just assuming it was fine given the contract terms. She tried to engage me in why I wanted to leave - was I planning to travel, where to, when, had I booked tickets, etc - and on four occasions suggested I wait until 30th June or until I had finalised plans. I entertained these questions for about 5 mins (including mentioning Voda's 3-month summer promo) but then politely but firmly stated I didn't want to give any more information and simply wanted to exercise my legal cancellation right as it was irrelevant whether she thought I could get a better deal elsewhere.
Offered to text PAC code but asked for it over phone as well (the text did arrive) - and then I asked to get handset unlocked. A long time on hold and then transferred to very helpful unlock team. £16 from my credit card and 5 mins later my N95 8GB was unlocked - score!
So my conclusion is the same - be polite, firm, and persistent, and don't entertain too much chat about leaving - simply keep stating your rights and the contract clause and don't be convinced to call back later.
Hope you all manage to get it done....!
