hi all ,I did get the txt and it did say I was able to cancel ,I have used 3 like home a lot as we got to the South of Ireland and have used 3 ire a lot ,but here's my problem I want to stay with them, could I renegotiate my contract ,get a new phone and new contract ,also would it help if we want to negotiate 7 contracts as the whole family has received the same txt

    Hi

I was offered the chance to cancel, but they agreed to drop my monthly rental down to £5 a month (but no new phone, no new contract, etc).

So you may have room to negotiate, but probably a drop in line rental, rather than new contract and new phone.

This is currently my 4th 3 contract (upgraded each time) and up until April 09, 3Like Home was never listed as being a promotion - it was most certainly used as a USP (Unique Selling Point) and was actively sold as being a wonderful service included as part of your contract.
I too am having major difficulty getting a cancellation from 3, and I have previously used this service, and would have been using this service in Ireland for 2 months over the summer - and unfortunately it really has been a case of 'computer says no!'
I really don't know how 3 can take it upon themselves to categorise customers into what effectively ends up as being 'yes' and 'no' - when in the main we all should have the option to cancel or not.
If it hadn't been for this change, I would have been quite happy to continue on with my contract, and probably upgrade and extend my term again - but following the way that customer service have dealt with this, then I can say with a degree of certainty that I will probably be off at the end of my term.

Let me get this right. Because Three changed their terms and conditions (cancelled 3 like home) from when I initially signed up for the contract, I have grounds to cancel ? If this is the case I think I'm going to give them a call in the morning and see where I get. The only problem I have is if they let me cancel what will happen to my credit I put on the account.....we'll see I guess

Gonns give Three a call in the next few hours. I'll keep you posted
  • Success! I got 2 PAC codes this morning. The trick is persistance and knowing your rights. Also not letting them fob you off with £10 credit. Also what I found helped is that I am Australian and my partner has family in Hong Kong so we regularly visit these places.

Well done, how long have you had your contracts? Were you able to cancel them both in one call? I have 3 to do and I don't want to spend all day on it !

Had you received the Txt's? we still have not had a text for any of our 3 accounts all of which were used in Australia for December and most of January.

We took out our contract in March and I was able to cancel them in one call because my name is on both contracts. Last night I was on hold for 1 hour 42 minutes and then found out the department was closed. This morning it took 40 minutes and it was all done. The PAC came through straight away. I had already written them down when I was on the phone to 3 though.

Thanks guys for all your posts, got a text from 3 yesterday, I phoned this morning and finally after about 2 hours managed to get them to cancel, getting changed over to PAYG, as my number isn't that important.
They did try the £10 compensation followed by upgrade options, followed by "we don't have any record of you being sent a text".
I asked to speak to a floor manager, who wanted me to phone back on 1st of June so I had the 3 like home facility unitil it ended, but I didn't fall for that one.
He finally gave in I just kept repeating that they had changed their terms and conditions so I wanted to cancel, and I was quite prepared to write to their head office.
I think they know they haven't got a leg to stand on really, just depends how persistent you want to be.
For all you guys moaning about trouble makers and people trying to get out of contracts, how many people have had insurance claims etc turned down because of small print in their terms and conditions?
Terms and conditions in contracts are there to protect eveyone.
I have never had a problem with 3 but i do use my phone abroad, and this will affect me, I was going to leave in October anyway when my contract is up.
Good luck if you give it a go.
  • Thought I'd update on my progress, despite writing on Monday I decided to try again this morning on the phone. Spent 12 mins arguing with the first lady I spoke to whether I would be able to cancel without paying the "early termination fee". She tried insisting that the text, did not say you could, despite me reading the line to her. She still insisted that Customer Options would say the same, but eventually transferred me.

After being on hold for 20 mins, the Customer Options chap was much better. He initially offered me a £10 goodwill gesture, that I declined a couple of times. He then said I could take the £10 and if I incurred any greater charges than this when roaming, to call them back and they would "see what they could do". I declined this also. Eventually he cancelled my contract and I no have a PAC code. :j Total time on the phone = 45 mins this morning.

So it definitely is possible to cancel, even without having received a txt or having used "3 like home" before. You just need to be persistent. Good luck.
