The minute I heard that 'English' accent I'd run a mile.
That's not racist or anything silly like that but there's no way a serious UK based company who are legit and providing you with a service would have such a person phone you out of the blue. There would need to be some sort of call quality understanding test.
I've had people worse than that phoning me from Dell but that was an expected call ie genuine so I'd not be suspicious.0 -
I had the call from SupportOn Click and the person has an asian/Indian accent. I was informed my computer was sending virus warnings to their company and that they could help me fix it. Hmmm!
I happen to work in IT and knew this to be a scam.
I told the caller that he was speaking rubbish and hung up.
This is a plausible scam to get remote control access to PC's so please watch out.0 -
I had several calls from this company last year. I was automatically suspicious as the only laptops that were registered with my details was a Mac and a broken one we no longer used. She then asked if we had any windows laptops/pcs so obviously it was just speculative.0

I think they're calling themselves Log 4 Rescue now - had a call from them this week, claiming to be from Microsoft (I had been reporting errors). Became suspicious when they directed me to their site, having spun the line about trojans and the rest of it. Told them I wanted to think about it before making a monetary commitment. Did a bit of research elsewhere, which confirmed my suspicions, and when they called back a second time, told them I'd installed anti-malware which had sorted out my problems, so didn't need their help. I wonder whether Microsoft realise they're taking their name in vain..........0

I was called by someone reporting to be from comantra.
They said they were from the Microsoft support center (how can they be both?).
They asked me to bring up the eventviewer on my pc, and then told me that I had lots of errors
caused by spyware and asked me to allow remote access to my PC for them to solve it.
At this point I hung up on them. I work in IT (programmer) I know what the event viewer
is and just wanted to play along so see where he was going with the call.
Mean while I had googles and found this site:
digitaltoast its a co uk site, and then the section supportonclick-systemrecure-scam
(I can't post links here so hence the line above)
A: they told me they had seen lots of errors from my PC.
B: they couldnt tell what version of windows I had.
C: they wanted me to believe that 'printer connection' error was caused by spyware, not the fact I have changed printer.
Ha ha, wish I had recorded it.0 -
Like a lot of forum users who write in on this subject I have been cold-called many times within the past few weeks with the same performance about computers running slow etc. The two numbers given (01274 449 373) and (01274 900 834) have seemingly been discontinued due to misuse of contract. I have also been in contact with various authorities such as trading standards, who took the information that I was able to give. Their advice was if supportonclick phone again, HANG UP!
Hopefully this company is under investigation.0 -
I also just got a phone call from them and quickly searched this site as I was sure that somebody would have come across them. As soon as I told the person on the phone that I had found adverse comments about them and to remove me from their records, she slammed the phone down. I guess that confirms your comments!!!0

We too have just had a call from them!! they spoke to my wife 1st & knew her name. They said we had a "windows problem with a very malicious virus" in our region & they had been instructed by a microsoft engineer "who was sat there with them" to contact me in case we had been "infected". Lol!! I was was half expecting men in white boiler suits to run through the door & start spraying me with disinfectant or something!!
My wife proceeded to inform them that we had no problem with our internet & they slammed the phone down on her!! SHOCKING!!
Then to our amazement they rang back!! This time i answered & asked him what was going on.. The Indian sounding guy apologised for us "getting cut off" & proceeded to give me exactly the same speal as he had my wife.. He said if i could go to my pc & follow his instructions he could check to see if we had been "infected!!". I then asked him the name of his company...he struggled to answer but eventually, after asking him 3 times, said "support on click". I asked for his contact number & he gave me two.. 0203 3185211 & 01274 790004..(neither of which i bothered to check as they may charge me extortionate amount for the call or something!!) He said now to sit down at my pc & he would instruct me on what to do!! I said that first of all i would check them out which obviously made him very uncomfortable.."there is no need for that" he said "we have the Microsoft engineers sat with us now so we can proceed straight away!!" ... I then told him in no uncertain terms that i would be a bit of an idiot in the current climate of scams & the like to start giving out access info to my PC to some random bloke who was calling from a company i had never heard of & i would be checking him out straight away.. I told him to call me back in 10 minutes as if he was reputable he wouldn't mind me checking them out!! He again tried to convince me otherwise but i persisted & he agreed... That is when i came on here & found all this info on ..what i had expected all along... is an obvious scam!
He did call me back & i simply told him to save his breath as i now knew they were scammers..Goodbye!! & i then put the phone down!! If they ring again i will just put the phone down!0 -
I've just posted a similar experience on the techie forum and they directed me to this thread. The scammers now seem to be trying their luck in the Middlesbrough area as I've heard from two seperate people about this. They told my mum they were connected with Virgin but she realised straight away there was something funny about the call and hung up. I've warned her they might ring again though, after reading the reports on here.0

Confirmation of the scam in the Western Telegraph:
Dyfed-Powys Police are warning people not to fall victim to a telephone scam which is currently targeting people in the area. The force has had a number of complaints from people who have received phone calls from callers saying they are Microsoft Engineers. The caller states that there are viruses on the victim’s computer and the system is running slowly because of this. These can be fixed if the victim logs into the computer and follows the callers’ instructions. After identifying that the system is infected they ask for credit card details for payment for software and are very insistent.
Karen Burch E Crime Wales Business Officer said that the changes made could disable the anti virus security installed and result in files being deleted. "Our advice is simple," she said. "Do not give personal information to strange callers. Microsoft employees do not ring their customers. Do not access your PC on the directions of a strange caller.”0
