After relieving them nothing can happen to your comp at all.

you forgot the ....unless they put something on your computer so they could pop back anytime they liked and use your machine in a botnet.

Unlikely a company so obviously known would do this but it's certainly possible as there's many 1000s of computers been taking over with the user having no knowledge of the problem. The culprits don't want to break your machine, they need it work well [for them to use].
  • Did you check whether malware has been installed? A complete scan will help. A good antivirus is the key. I have McAfee now but also have norton. Which the best you suggest?

You shouln't have more than one AV progam installed. Neither Norton nor McAfeee are good. Suggest you install either Kaspersky or Avira.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Will get Kaspersky. Thanks a lot man. Will be uninstalling the rest of the two.

I received a phonecall from them this afternoon and I am wondering if it is no coincidence that several of the people who have posted comments on here are with talktalk. I am with onetel which is now part of talktalk. Who knows, maybe a talktalk employee has accepted a backhander to provide this company with a list of names and phone nos of its customers, it would explain how they have got hold of our names and phone nos which I must admit did cause me some concern. Are any other people who have been contacted by this company talktalk customers?
:eek:I received a phone call today, purporting to be from or on behalf of Windows. She knew our surname and yes, we are Talk Talk customers. The caller asked me to turn on the pc. I'm always automatically wary when cold-called: I asked who she was and she said Maria from Support On Click ringing about a virus on our pc. I asked why Windows didn't just e-mail everyone - she said it was better to ring. She told me the pc was infected - I said it wasn't - she was insistent. I said now wasn't a good time as I was going to walk the dog (I wanted time to think). Maria wanted to ring back in half an hour - I said I'd be walking the dog all day (!) She's going to ring back on Monday - I can't wait to disappoint her. I'm grateful to this forum for confirming my suspicions are probably well-placed

So they're going to ring everyone with Windows? Wouldn't like to be paying their phone bill then...
If she's so clever, try asking her which version of Windows you have installed.

  • It didn't get that far - when she rang, I was really busy with work, so a bit curt and that curtailed the conversation. She asked if she could ring back, I said no and she hasn't.
  • They may call back Mr. Blimey.

I had received their call and have a good experience. However, there are many who speak against the callers and hence I came here to figure out whats going on.
