Just had the same thing on our landline... Cold call, was silent when I answered then went through to an Asian woman... I never give out the landline number yet she asked for me... said she was calling from technical support team, did I use Vista or XP? Answered this, then she asked if it was running slow? I started to think what, on the desktop PC, laptop? This is where I became wary, I can see how others would answer too many questions before realising.
I asked if we had called her and she said no I was a privileged windows user.. if I'm that privileged give me the privilege of no cold calls! I just hung up at this point, it never occurred that it was a scam (as opposed to the normal sales calls we all hate) but tried 1471 and there was no number.

We started getting calls several weeks ago. They ask for me or my husband by name and they call on our landline. It sounds like an Indian call centre and the caller tells us we have a problem with our computer and that it is very slow. We cut them off very quickly at first but then they started to call frequently so we told them that we are registered with the TPS and that they should remove our name from their list but they became quite aggressive. Unfortunately, that hasn't stopped them calling. As soon as we ask questions they hang up. My son answered on Saturday and said he'd get his dad but they hung up again. They called me again last night but the line was silent (the background noise was familiar though!). I'm actually getting really fed up with it. I know not to give out any details but don't know how to stop them calling. I'm going to start keeping a record of their calls, and will ask for their company name and phone number.0

Just had ANOTHER call! This time I got the company name......Support Onclick. I told them I'd heard of them and that they were running a scam so of course 'Peter' became very irritated with me and hung up! Just hope that's the last time they call.0

If any landline numbers appear on 1471/caller ID (even if false) please post them as many of us can block them.0

Support Onclick now calling me on a daily basis. Just heard back from TPS that we can make a complaint but not too hopeful as they are not exactly a legitimate business by the sound of things! Heard of something called BT choose to refuse - does anyone know how much this costs? The number the support onclick caller gave me was 12744449124 which doesn't sound quite right.
These calls are driving me mad so if anyone has advice on stopping nuisance calls (other than TPS) I'd really appreciate it.0 -
You can't do anything about Support Onclick via TPS, as they are an overseas company. TPS only applies to calls originating within the UK, they have no jurisdiction overseas. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Get caller ID and an answering machine. If people chapped your door 50 times a day you'd soon stop answering it.0

I received a call from Techies Online, based in Bradford? An Indian sounding man calling himself Mark Jordan wanted to tell me that my PC was in danger of a Blue Screen death and that he can help me.
He wanted me to run the eventvwr. I just kept on asking him to look out of his window and tell me what the weather was like.
He gave up on me after almost 12 minutes.
Reinforcing advice from this forum, if you are not expecting a call, assume it is a scam.0 -

Tell them you don't own a computer, and they are wasting their time.0 -
Some dude in the US answered my call for a recording of the scam - this is great!
