Just had a call from 'Support One Care'.
I let 'Gordon' talk me through loading the Event Viewer and told him just what he wanted to hear even though I was nowhere near any of our computers!
I must admit that I was losing patience after about 10 minutes so I asked him where he was based - to which he replied 'we are a global company'. I then asked if he was in India - 'yes, this is our head office'.
I then requested the telephone number: 0203 411 7907
I then informed him that I would be posting these details online and informed him that I have a 1st class degree in Computer Science.
Please make sure that any friends or relatives are aware that these phone calls are not welcome and they would be better off putting the phone down.0 -
Just had "John" on the phone........although from his accent I suspect his name was actually Ranjit or Krishnan.
"Did I know my computer was sending them error messages" blah blah blah.
Found out where he was calling from "The Support Online", quickly googled and found them to be scammers, and hung up. He rang back. I hung up. He rang back and before I could hang up, he called me a Motherf***er. Nice guy John is.
I have no idea why Microsoft accredits them with being a Gold Partner. Im thinking of speaking with my own MS Gold Partner to find out how to report these people to Microsoft.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
Just because they are showing the MS Gold Partner logo, doesn't mean they actually are.
I could fill my site with logos and claim to be a member of a whole host of accredited schemes without having to apply to any of them.Never Knowingly Understood.

But if they are fraudulently using MS logos, MS have a hell of a lot of incentive (and cash) to get them shut down.illegitimi non carborundum0

my mother got an identicle phone call from a 'company' www .winpcsupport.com. she paid for 5 years support at £55 a year. (£275 in total) she payed with paypal. (which doesnt give refunds for services if a dispute is escalated to a claim)
winpcsupport obviously didnt know this as when i threatened to up the paypal dispute to a claim. they actually gave my mum a full refund. it did take a lot of e mails and messages and a phone call. you really do need to know what your doing when dealing with them.0 -
For info winpcsupport.com - I have removed email contact addresses from these, but they can be found by doing a WHOIS.

Hello, I was given a laptop yesterday by a customer to have a look at, she had managed to get taken in by "The Support Group" (thesupportonline) and had paid for some of their services. She had paid the £199.99 for an agreement where she received;
Windows 7 Ulitmate upgrade (she was on Vista)
4yrs Anti-Virus
3 Years tech support
Optimization.
Through remote access they had upgrade her machine and installed the antivirus before she was told by someone that the company was dodgy. She contacted the company and told them she was no longer interested and after a few questions and a talk to a supervisor they agreed to refund her money (no money had been returned as yet).
I was then handed the machine to see what they had done and to look for any security risks. I have checked the machine ( I work in internet security) and replaced their anti-virus with others and have found nothing wrong. She had a fully working copy of Windows 7 Ultimate and no security risks that I could find. This got me rather confused as from what I could see, apart from the very dubious way in which they do business, I could not see where the scam was. The customer has cancelled her card and informed her bank to protect against abuse there.
Finally trying to work out what was going on I contacted microsoft to check the validity of the Windows 7 Ultimate license. After much pain trying to expain the situation to the Microsoft rep, I was told that the license was a business use bulk license which was not for resale or home use and I would have to speak to the reseller to get a valid license. However many times I tried to explain about the "reseller", this was the only advice she would give me. The recomendation I have now given to give to the customer is to re-install the machine using either the original copy of Vista or to purchase a valid copy of Windows 7 and install that.
So even after the fact that no one should ever give the time of day, let alone remote access to their pc to a cold caller, the package they offer only appears to be great value but is infact illegal software.
If anyone has any real information about any issues regarding security resulting after these people have had access to a machine I would like to hear. From what I have read about this the primary scam seems to be selling unwanted services and unlicensed products and not a security(virus/trojan) issue.
Hope this helps someone.

Just had yet another call from these guys, I normally just hang up but had a bit of spare time so started telling this guy, before he could even start, that there was no way that the errors in my event viewer were anything to do with infections from the internet.
I repeated over and over that this company have called me many times and each time I have asked them not to call again and to remove me from their database.
He said 'Really? How do you know it's us? What is my company name?'
:rotfl::rotfl:
He then went on to repeat the fact that they have had reports from my supplier that I have infections and errors. I asked him who my ISP was, he replied BT - wrong
Anyway, he started his script again and I just hung up.
HE RANG STRAIGHT BACK!!!!
He said 'Madam did you hang up on me?'
I said that I did and asked again for him to remove my details from his database.
He said "WHAT WILL YOU DO IF I DON'T?" :eek:
I hung up and went to find the loudest noise maker in my house, it is sitting next to the phone, what's the betting he rings at 3am!0
