I used to be wth AOL and had this problem so I set up webmail via Yahoo (you could also use Hotmail) and that achieves the desired result without having to change ISP. I am very happy with the webmail service as I can access it anywhere (home, work, internet cafe, etc) and still use it in preference to Outlook even though I am no longer with AOL.

Having read the article on cheapest home phone providers I decided to sign up with 18866. when I entered my AOL e-mail address a message flashed up to say I couldn't register as AOL blocks 18866's emails. Has anyone else come across this and is there any solution?30 years, 217 days!0

Thanks very much, silly me I hadn't thought of that. I'll certainly try it.0

Can any one help/advise please.
Looking at her bill she makes 2.33 of calls service charge is 29.36. Her total bill is 37.17. She is on a BT friends and family oveseas scheme. Although she has no family overseas as far as I am aware. she made 11 calls from the date period 22sept -11 dec. I know of the call 18866 and call 1899 to reduce callcosts what is the way fwrd to reduce the service charge.

Hi all, I need to tap into the wonderful knowledge of this great forum again!
Am I stuck with NTL?
The situation is this:
Telephone line: NTL (free as I get cable digital TV for £21.24 including voicemail which I need for my work).
OneTel basic box for weekend free landline calls.
18866 for most calls at 1/2 p per minute (because it is cable and not BT), sometimes 1899 if I know I am making a longer call (free, but 3 p connection fee). Always 18866 for landline calls to Italy as I know it is a 2p per minute charge flat out and no extra from NTL.
Mobile: I use mine very little, am on O2 pay as you go and not bothered to change as £10 lasts me for months and months due to low use - need it mainly to get calls in.
Mobile calls out: russian roulette with my own telephone line if calling UK, but using 18866 and getting the calls for 15 p a minute when calling Italy (very rare occurrence).
Internet: NTL again, £12.99 unlimited - I know there are other packages out there which are cheaper but I have found NTL very reliable in this sense.
The problem:
I would like to give up cable tv and retain only the regular 5 channels (because my kids' brains are addled by music videos and american crap). But because we get NTL we cannot cancel some channels and retain others (I think). We seem to be stuck with them re. tv and phone options together!
I would go back to BT but will have to pay re-connection fee as the BT cable has been stripped a long time ago when I had some work done on the outside of the house. Also, BT are NOT telling me whether I can retain my current number until I make the booking to go with them. Is this legal?
With BT I would have a lot more cheap options for phone calls (free 18866, talk talk etc) but what about the television? How could I manage to get digital 5 channels and no other crap added on top?
Sorry if I am putting too much information but I really don't know what the best option is, other than give up TV, pay the BT reconnection line and live happily ever after.....
I would love this option but would also find myself having to handle a revolution from the teenagers - and the husband too I suspect!
Thanks in advance for any advice.
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Buy a freeview box? But I suspect you will still have a revolution ;D
Like it or not all calls and internet connection end up being cheaper if you have BT.0 -
Is there any chance of an update of the tables for cheapest landline to mobile tarriffs?0
-
Caterina (page 8 ),
I read a thread on here previously which said that if you cancel your cable TV package with NTL then they don't even bother to pick up the set top box. This does still allow you to watch the five terrestrial channels without any subscription to NTL. I would have put details of the previous thread on here if I were better at searching the site ;D...and then the window licker said to me...0 -
Hi can someone help me. We've just had a bill from BT which was about £50. £45 of this was service charges! I'm not interested in using my landline for anything except the internet, so don't need cheap evening calls / landline to mobile calls etc. Just very cheap line rental please.
Thanks in anticipation
