Never having used Tele2 I don't know about their service and so couldn't compare them. Checking their website it says the offer finished on 31 January with nothing up as yet for February.
TalkTalk have recently listed a number of new plans but the one that was TalkTalk2 offering the free UK evening and w/end calls for a year along with some free mobile calls is now called TalkTalk1+ Click here

I Currently have 2 lines with BT. I use Fast4 dial-up for Internet (£6.99 per month but I am still on a special offer of £5 pm.) I would like to ditch one of the lines and go to Broadband. I am using 18866 for most phone calls of course.
My question is : Can somebody advise me of a better option than paying for 2 line rentals, bearing in mind current BB costs, set-up cost, modem etc. I have asked this question before but really want to get this sorted. We do not really need 2 telephone numbers. Thanks guys."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -
With BB you only need one line because you can surf the net and be on the phone making a voice call simultaneously on the one exchange line. Does that answer your question?0

I am going the whole way. I am disgusted with the way BT go about their business. They take money from you without authorisation. Their service is poor, They overcharge. They make unjustified charges on your account and 'forget' to refund fully when you notice something amiss. Goodbye Option 2 Hello the new telephone world!
I have new DECT handsets, an Orchid V4 dialler and I am sorting the whole thing out. I am thinking of Talk Talk for evenings and weekkends with 1899 and 18866 for to other calls to Germany, Dubai and mobiles here and in UK.
I may even get rid if BT Broadband Basic as they charge premium rates for help and have limited download size. Advice welcome0 -
TheLoft, I used to have two lines, one for internet and one for calls until the price of broadband came down to under £20 a month which made it cheaper than the line rental and dial up connection, and of course had to wait for broadband in the area.
When One-tel was the best on the block I had them, then changed to TalkTalk for the free year and hopefully by the end of August someone else will come along with a good deal too! I use 18866 for any daytime calls and International calls.
So you really just need to read up on the best broadband deal for you which can be found for less than £20 a month and most of the big ones will give you the modem and filters but tie you in for twelve months. (once you have broadband you will wonder why you waited so long) I went with Tesco because I used them for years with dial up with no problems.
Thing is you can get bogged down with reading reviews from people but usually they only post the downside of a provider, try asking around your friends perhaps and of course read the forums here.0 -
Barrwalk, you are well on the way to making savings then with your telephone!
I can recommend TalkTalk as I have used them since August but do check out other providers as a lot are offering similar such as Tele2 where you get the first year free for UK calls evenings and w/ends. The best plan with TalkTalk now is TalkTalk1+.
As regards BT broadband most of the others now offer unlimited download but most have a premium rate help line. However, you can usually find any help you might need here and if you do ever have to phone a help line number all operators are instructed to tell you exactly how much you are paying per minute and are usually pretty quick with an answer. Do, of course, be ready with the correct questions!!
Good luck with the Orchid dialer and I hope you quoted Moneysavingexpert for the discount0 -

Thanks Edi/Lass. I manage to sign up with Tele2 before the end of January, and my switch on date is 9/02/05.
I was just checking if I had made a mistake, as the offer is exactly the same as Talk Talk.
I do have 30 days to cancel and wasn't sure whether to stay as it is with Tele2 or cancel and sign up with Talk Talk.
This is why I wanted to know if you knew anything about Tele2, heard anything bad. I value your opinion as your know your stuff when it comes to phones. So I was hoping you might point me in the right direction.:)
I will sign up for the 18866 and 1899 when it all gets sorted.
Thanks Edi/Lass for your advice.:)0 -
Hi, just had a look at my 18866 invoice on the website, cannot believe what excellent value it is, then printed off the page of all the numbers we have had, which was correct! This little note is to tell anyone who may not know that at the foot of the page it says 'advertised tariffs include vat and are subject to change, 18866 calls are subject to a connection fee as published on the website!' this makes me think you may not be notified of any price changes, and maybe one should keep an eye on the website. Hopefully they would send a e mail, but best to be safe than sorry. Best wishes oap0

@Pat the only advantage to me with TalkTalk over say Tele2 is that I now have a lot of friends and family that are with TalkTalk and therefore we can talk at ANY time for free
Oh and it makes no difference when you sign up for 18866 and/or 1899 except the sooner you do, the quicker you get cheap daytime calls!
@oap, I would reckon that if/when 18866 or 1899 ever change their connection charge you will read it here FIRST0 -
Thank You Edi/Lass, yes I understand that you can talk to other people/members of family for free if they are on Talk Talk with you.
I had forgot about that as I had read it, but the memory isn't good.:D
I will have to convert my family and friends:)
This is a brill board and very helpful and money saving.Thanks.:)0
