You can use just 18866 anytime with BT

    - but on top of that One-tel will do the free off-peak package (they offer this assuming you'll make all calls via them, but people here know better)

    i think im getting it!!!
    bt line rental
onetel for free off peak calls
    1866 for all others
    it that correct?
thanks for your patience with this newbie!!!!he he

just one problem how the hell do you get through to bt in the first place!!!!ha ha ha LOL
  • You see, 18866 and 1899 are just too expensive in the evenings and weekends. 18866 charge 1p (or 3p) for each call, and they expect me to use their service? And they don't give me £10 or £20 just for signing up. (I use them during the day and for international calls though :))

You're probably on the BT Together option one already; everybody on the ordinary tariff was switched to it last summer.

Am I right in thinking this is BT's lowest line rental, or is there another option?
The only stupid question, is an unasked question ...

There are cheaper (one of about half BT's price has been mentioned in these forums fairly recently) BUT, changing may introduce a number of restrictions and unknowns:

It is likely any new 'line provider' will require you to sign up for a minimum of 12 months.

Only BT is required to allow users of its lines to make use of alternative telcos (CPS and/or prefix) for making calls (a new provider might require you to make all your calls on their system - at rates which are not the best available.

A new 'line provider' will obviously just take over BT's wiring. What happens if a fault develops? Is there likely to be a problem with getting a repair? Will the provider try to pass the buck back to BT (who won't be particularly interested)?

That's all I can think of for the moment.

    IMHO, risky!

If you're only comparing call1899.co.uk and call18866.co.uk, 1899 is cheaper for calls to mobiles from a BT landline:

    • 1899 - 10p/minute weekdays & 2p/minute weekends
    • 18866 - 12p/minute weekends & 3p/minute weekends.
International calls are another matter and, in fact, 18866 and 1899 prices can be beaten for some locations - use the MSE Call Checker each time to see which is best.

I meant just BT. Is there a cheaper BT option?

    Thanks for your answer, anyway.

  • No, the cheapest option on BT is Option1 which is your basic line rental at £10.50 per month if paid by dd or £11.50 per month if not.
