Unfortunately i joined homecall before finding out about 18866 - homecall do not allow calls to 18866 or 1899. Will move back to bt when 12 month broadband contract finishes.

    Hi All,
Just received e-mail from CALL18866 today saying the connection charge for UK calls is going up to 2p (in other words, DOUBLING). Obviously this will hit people who use 18866 solely for UK calls. I will continue to use them for UK and Spain (2p connection and 2p per minute - can't be beaten as far as I can see).

    Erm. 1899?

3p connection and 1p/minute (charged by the second).

  • Just signed up with 1899 & 1866 to discover that being with Telewest that my calls are not as cheap as I expected.

Rates quoted are for using through BT it seems?

Round and round in circles......

Yes I have had an e mail too, connection now 2p instead of 1p, but still unlimited time on phone so must be cheaper than BT and others. If anyone knows any different, as we are just on bt line and 18866, please let us know, thanks, thought it was too good to be true, wonder how long it will be before its 3p then 4p?? etc, will have to keep the calls down now!! Best wishes to all oap

It seem like 18866 @ 1p connection was just too good to last. A victim of its own success.

Well it was good while it lasted ! BUT, almost everyone said "How can they afford to do this?" and obviously they could not keep it going. We have all heard of loss leaders and these cheap rates were obviously to attract customers. I quite agree with the post that says "how long before it is 3p and then 4p etc." Has anyone complained to 18866, not that it will do any good! But I have.

OTOH, BT charge a minimum call rate 150% more than 18866's new rate of 2p (5p - which they cleverly increase to 5½p between 1800 and 0600 weekdays and all weekend).

I was just searching for better deals as I'm phoning Austria on a regular basis. 18866 is charging 2 p per min, but according to Martin there is the lo-call option. Does that mean I am only charged for a lo-call until I am connected to the Austrian number or for the duaration of the call? Will I be able to use my BT allowance for that?
