  • Phone 150 and tell BT you want to go onto BT Together Option 1.

That'll be line rental £10.50 per month if you pay by DD (£11.50 per month if you don't).

You then decide how you make your calls (most of us use 18866 to make UK 01 & 02 calls for 1p for as long as you want - at any time).

I've posted a separate note about a service I've just started using that costs a flat £29.95 per month - unlimited calls to mobiles and landlines, UK, USA & Canada. It comes with a USA number but this is no problem as I've just kept my UK number, and call out on the US number.

As far as I can work out, these people have some sort of internet breakout gateway in the USA, but the company behind it is in China and the Phillippines.

Had to buy a box that plugs into broadband, then I just used my ordinary cordless phone into the box.....

If I use the 18866 service, whats the best (cheapest) way to use my dial-up internet connection? I guess 0845 numbers are not included in the 1p tarrif
  • Hello

Can you help? I'm have tried to sign up to 1899 to make use of their 3 pence calls to the US. The problem is when the sign up screen goes to take my bank details, it does not have a padlock in the corner of the screen to tell me it is secure transaction. I e-mailed their customer services and had this reply "Thank you for bringing this fault to our attention. We are looking into the problem and it will be fixed as soon as possible."

I've signed up with 18866 and can't remember if I had the same problem then. I've had a look through the postings but can't find anything about it. Can anyone clarify how secure these sites really are?

    Thank you!

You can use Ratebusters 1p per minute rate without having to sign up. You simpy dial 08447202020 (from BT lines) then after the prompt you would dial the full USA number.

they charge a pay as you go broadband service and charge from £11.75 - up to a maximum of £28.39. Please note all prices exclude vat at 17.5% and the prices i quoted are including. i was looking for myself orginally and kept that link saved.
As for home phone - i used 18866.co.uk before i saw martins site and it is stupidly cheap. they also charge 2 to 3p for usa and 1p per UK call. I pay BT 10.50pm and then 18866.co.uk the rest (wow 1.92 for last month!)

Hi can someone help me. We've just had a bill from BT which was about £50. £45 of this was service charges! I'm not interested in using my landline for anything except the internet, so don't need cheap evening calls / landline to mobile calls etc. Just very cheap line rental please.

    Thanks in anticipation

Some1 has posted a note on Sep 2004 saying that https://www.itplc.com have line rental for £5.25 per month. Have no personal experience, and there's a few comments after that note, just thought you might like to check it out. ;)
If only I'd found this site sooner!!

    Hi
I am looking for some help.
I have BT line for which I pay quarterly . I have alphaplus for national and local calls which charge £ 9.99 /month and AOL broadband through BT modem( one year contract with AOL). Now I want to switch to talktalk for my evening calls and to 1899/18866 for day calls.
My worry is about aol broadband. Can I do that or it will cause problems to my broadband.
    Will it be worth?
