There is now a post-it note on our phone so that my boyfriend doesn't forget to dial the 18866! ;D

  • Hi there,

This is my first post although I have been getting Martins tips for quite a while. I am with BT (as they are the only game in town) and I am on option 3. I have just registered with 18866 and am going to go on option 1 tomorrow (when they return from their holiday break) My question is: I resent paying the huge costs for 0845 / 0870 numbers and I do use the non-geographical alternative site whenever I have to dial one of these numbers. 18866 charge 9p a minute for 0870 and 4p a minute for 0845. would bt be cheaper to dial these numbers?

I would be grateful for any advice.
Of all the things I have lost it's my mind I miss the most:D

    Can any one help/advise please.
Looking at her bill she makes 2.33 of calls service charge is 29.36. Her total bill is 37.17. She is on a BT friends and family oveseas scheme. Although she has no family overseas as far as I am aware. she made 11 calls from the date period 22sept -11 dec. I know of the call 18866 and call 1899 to reduce callcosts what is the way fwrd to reduce the service charge.

    Welcome ianhutch.

It certainly sounds like she's paying BT more than she needs to.

An immediate change to the standard BT Together Option 1 will reduce her monthly line rentail to £10.50 (if she pays by Direct Debit) or £11.50 for any other payment method.

However, with her making only 11 calls in nearly a full quarter, it looks like she qualifies for the Light User Scheme (click the blue text) and, depending on her calls in any quarter, that would reduce her line rental.  If she goes onto that scheme, she can't use 18866 or 1899 for her calls though.

I Work for carphone wharehouse retail and I highly recomend the talktalk service although it better for people to get e voucher to claim £20
Get free landline calls in the evening and weekends for 1 whole year withou paying anything Extra on BT line rentle. basicly join talktalk service which has been on the telly with martins money saving tip. there is no contract so you can use the service as little or as long as you want you want. You will £20 credit when you join opt for talk2 simliar to bt option2 and you will get that free for 1 year. you will need a voucher e-mailed to you for the £20 credit it's on untill end of jan 2005.
so e-mail me bazigaar420@hotmail.com and i will mail you the voucher.

  • Having read the article on cheapest home phone providers I decided to sign up with 18866. when I entered my AOL e-mail address a message flashed up to say I couldn't register as AOL blocks 18866's emails. Has anyone else come across this and is there any solution?

Have to say having been with AOL for years (all my internet life) this is the first time I have been close to changing my ISP as well. AOL has gone down in my estimation considerably!! ??? :-/
