Last time I checked, 18866 were cheapest for 0845 and 0870 only at peak times (3p and 7p). But, as 18866 charge this price at all times, BT was cheaper for off peak and weekends. As has already been said, dial 1280 to access BT if you are with a CPS (e.g. TalkTalk, One.Tel)!

Has anyone ever heard of a telephone company called Euphony? if what are they like and is it worth becoming a consultant/seller for them?0

Talk Talk's "Talk 2" plan is now free to people who sign up this month, so you could get free evening and weekend calls from them for nothing and use call18866 for any daytime calls. This will actually make your bill lower than Martin's article!
If you are already with Talk Talk, and they won't give you the plan for free (because you are a new customer) threaten to cancel your contract with them altogether (just use 18866 instead) - they will probably compromise.
Oh yes, as an incentive, they are throwing in a years worth of evening and weekend calls to the USA, Cananda and Australia too!

Hi,
One for Martin or his team. I phoned Orchid to order a V4 dialler so my wife doesn't forget to use 18866 etc which just this week must have saved me ten quid. I tried to get a discount on the dialler by saying that I had heard about it on the moneysavers website but she wouldn't budge but when I said that they should think about it because there were 150,000 subscribers and it could be worth their while. She went a bit quiet and said "oh that's different I will have to talk with my manager about it!"
Could be worth an official e-mail or call, their direct number is 01536 443677 to avoid their 0870 number.
Anybody who calls should try the same thing and it will eventually wear them down. No good for me but somebody might eventually get a discount.
Regards,
SteveIf you lend someone £20 and never see that person again.
It was probably worth it.0 -
amitnaker Yes I've herd of Euphony. They've been round for a number of years now as resellers of telephone service. They seem to tick over. I once went to a seminar of theirs and in those days I got the impression that they were working on a pyramid selling type basis. I guess things may have changed now. But as I say, they have been around for a while.0

I have been fed up with BT exploiting their position in the market (imposing option 1 for instance). Homecall, https://www.homecall.co.uk, are now offering line rental for £9.99 which is cheaper than BT. They will also provide the same services that BT provide cheaper than BT. In addition, they are offering 512k Broadband with free sign up and Modem AND free National and local calls for £24.99. Has antone got a view of this?0

IIRC Homecall require you to make all your calls on their network. Fine, if you don’t call abroad and have no need to use 1899, 18866 or whoever to get cheap international calls (e.g. BT charge 44/50p/minute to S.Africa whereas 1p/minute is available elsewhere).
On the basis that the broadband would cost £17.99, you’d be paying £7 extra for free calls to UK 01 and 02 numbers. On 18866, that’s 700 calls (23 every day). Do you really make that many calls?30 years, 217 days!0 -

Can Homecall actually stop me from using alternative providers such as 18866? Will the prefix just not work?
Could one use a CPS provider such as TalkTalk whilst using Homecall just for the landline and cheaper caller display service (9.99+0.85GBP rather than 10.50+1.75, a saving of 1.41GBP per month)?
Does anyone know of any other operators with a full landline and calls package? At present the BT landline rental is by far the biggest part of my bill and I would like to get away from them to a cheaper line rental if possible - otherwise they could hold all of us CPS users to ransom
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -
you are being robbed by bt!what you need to do is limit the amount of calls you make to the absolute minimum for a period of 9 months.then contact bt and tell them you want to go on to the light user scheme, you must try to keep calls you make down to no more than £5 a month, make all your other calls with your computer,by using for instance callserve and a mobile phone.this will take a lot of patience, when the 9 months are up they will ask you if you have a mobile phone and also the internet obviously you say no,then they put you on the light user scheme!my quarterly bills are now £18 to £20 including calls, vat, line rental everything!this is a genuine saving of approx.£17 a quarter,(im not a big phone user!).
not to be sniffed at.PLEASE NOTE;this will not work if you have broadband or dial up with bt,i sugest you move your internet connection to ntl or telewest-much better than bt anyway! ;D0
